All you have to do is look up the MOS number or whatever it’s called for some really boring military job like logistics, public affairs, or some other random bullshit that no-one is going to bother verifying. Be smart, claim to be the regimental prophylactic supply sergeant or something, and park in whichever veterans spot you want

A kid I went to high school with joined the navy and was gone for 4 years. I left the town immediately after high school but he reached out to me to tell me he was back from his adventures on the high seas and went back to our high school in full uniform just to walk around and get his thank yous for his service. He was also quite upset that he didn’t get many thank yous but did get a lot of weird looks.
