Games@lemmy.world•Why does Australia tend to ban or censor video games?English
5·2 hours agoI’m talking about political and societal attitudes; We’re outliers. Simply being on the Fediverse makes us outliers with a strong bias towards more tech and gaming based interests.
It will be another 10-20 years before politics catches up to us in normalising video games and understanding they’re important cultural elements not simply kids entertainment. Until that point in time, their importance is going to be neglected by politicians and Christian lobbyists will be able to exert their influence over moral policing them.

Games@lemmy.world•Why does Australia tend to ban or censor video games?English
3·2 hours agoThey may have grown up with video games, but video games were not the cultural force they are today. For my entire childhood they were for nerdy boys, now everyone growing up plays them and they are mass cultural events such as fortnite concerts and streamers.

12·3 hours agoOur country is incredibly lazy and slow to change, and Christians hold a lot of power.
Likewise the median age of politician is 50, so they’re not really a generation who value gaming.
But mostly it’s Christian’s and their forced morals on the rest of us.
I bought some random straightener brush from a shop a few years ago and I love it compared to a flat iron. I find the gaps between the brush-prong-things helps grab between my curl strands.

Australia@quokk.au•Australia one step closer to dental in MedicareEnglish
5·6 hours agoJust as I’m about to start like a ~$20,000 dental treatment. I bet this will come in the second I start getting billed for it.
Still long overdue and I hope it does happen and benefits everyone.
But it’s not exerting force, it’s teleporting.
Magpies wouldn’t feel so smug that’s for sure.
Agreed. It’s not even funny, at least the moth stuff had good memes.

8·12 hours agoOnly happened yesterday, no news articles or anything are up about it so no idea what’s happening. Might be a stolen car as well.
Although this is more in the realm of terrorism than losing a license.

2·14 hours agoThanks for pointing that out. It sounds like this person is going to be truly horrific for human rights in France for the next 6 years.

Congratulations you are on the list.
At least they realise and aren’t saying “oh it’s not that bad, let’s just wait to see if anything gets worse before we worry”
Except it’s one of those lazy skins that’s just a jpg downloaded as the background and somehow it only lets you listen to Christian Rock.

121·1 day agoMonster is a cliché trans meme drink. My comment was something called a joke, which apparently is a new concept to you.

Using that exact wording wouldn’t be very useful, it’s more in the moment explaining something relating to a topic.
