Are they? I feel like Plibersek has been mooted as the natural successor for quite a while. I honestly can’t think of anyone in Labor who would be a more natural next leader than her. She’s been kinda sidelined by Albanese, but her history puts her in a good spot.
The only other names I can think of are Bowen and Chalmers. I would add Penny Wong, but being from the Senate is a significant barrier for her.
conversations with more than a dozen MPs, staffers and former parliamentarians, one name came up most as the successor to Albanese: the health and NDIS minister, Mark Butler. In public polls and news articles, Jim Chalmers is also mentioned, as is the deputy prime minister, Richard Marles, and minister for home affairs, Tony Burke.
Seems like internally they don’t support them at all.
Also I almost threw up at the prospect of a Wong government. She has shown herself to be such a disgrace lately with her pathetic responses to serious issues, ex. the rape of Flotilla members.
