That seems short sighted, for example the very popular voyager client doesn’t show any profile pictures. I wasn’t even aware those are a thing. I dont want one either though.
It’s just easier to notice than a name, but some users have eye catching names too, some use emojis for example.
And that’s why I’ll never add one.

I don’t think it’s supported yet. but you could sign in to the website for others using different frontends to see.
I’ve been using them a lot and I will say that it makes Identifying people way easier. I notice “regulars” now way more than before because of their unique pp. Whether that’s a good thing or not I’ve no idea.
