Weed. It’s easy to just hit a pen in the bathroom, and it relaxes you without making you literally incapable of doing the job. I’m sure other drugs are common in food service too, but the one I saw regularly was weed.
I was training a new hire. She was good, better than me in some respects.
But one day she came in and did no work, just sat there shaking… insisting she was fine.
Turns out she was tweaking, she came in high.
She was given a final warning but then she came high again and was fired.
I worked in a restaurant where a server would shoot up in the bathroom before her shift. She didn’t last long.

In our case, lots and lots of alcohol. Definitely coke going around but it’s not my thing.

Just say you’re sick and go home. It isn’t that hard. Don’t try to play it off and work anyway. Not unless you’re really, really good.
