The community is called childfree, you’d think everyone here would be at least somewhat opposed to the concept of having children.

There isn’t enough content to stick to a few subreddits, and any that get enough traction will certainly be “brigaded” since there isn’t that much content to go around.

Person disseminating extremist views complains people don’t let them isolate with other extremists to become even more extremist.

Person was promised a social media bubble and it upset it doesn’t work that way.

Much like the real world does not work as simple as the simple minded people want to make to believe.

The fuck is extremist about “I don’t want to have kids”? I’m just surprised there are so many parents on a community for people who have decided for whatever reason that they’re better off without kids in their lives.

Some people shouldn’t have kids. Especially not those that don’t want to have em. Know plenty of people that do that privately and I can respect that.

And then there is the child free movement that is like the vegan movement. Can’t go a breath without telling people about it and trying to convert more people.

As a parent that rubs me the wrong way. There are a lot of people missing life experience that a advocate to miss one of the things with a potential for the most profound experience in their lives. Endangering it for others thinking that know it all. Its a little like a Catholic priest advocating against marriage or against sex. Its a topic he can’t possibly know anything substantial about because observing is not the same as doing.

    I was child free until I wasn’t?

    Lil guy is pretty cute.

Saw this when browsing everything, normally I’d let it pass but I felt called out.

I totally support the child free community. Was pretty sure I’d be amongst you all.

I hope most in the child free are not aggressively against children, I knew someone like that once, not a cool person.

There is a surprising amount of antinatalism here. Apparently people just want the human race to end.

I do want the human race to end though. Not painfully, but rather phasing out gradually (although I do realize that antinatalism is such an unpopular opinion that it isn’t really possible). No hate for children or any other being though. I just want there to be less suffering.

Not sure what you mean by that. Neither I nor antinatalism advocates for ending existent life. It is just about not causing additional suffering by bringing new beings into existence.

If anything, I believe that we should acknowledge that we are all in this suffering together, and be compassionate to fellow living beings.

It’s the logical conclusion of antinatalism. All life “suffers”. If you stop bringing new beings into the world that can experience suffering then you’re advocating for no life at all after this current generation.

And yes I fully support compassion and empathy, but you can do that while also sustaining the human race and life as we know it.

Got it. Thanks for clearing that up. I thought you were talking about antinatalists ending existent life.

Yes, in the ideal scenario, I think it is best to “end” all life, via gradually phasing out of existence. I think that would cause minimal suffering. I do not realistically think that it could happen in the next generation (or in any generation owing to how extreme and controversial it is perceived by the general population).

Sure, you can be compassionate and empathetic to existing beings, but I see not bringing new beings out of empathy (due to the potentiality of their guaranteed suffering) to be more moral and a purer form of the trait.

I dream about it. Like, if a fungus infected all of mand kind, and suddenly we all stopped reproducing because the fungus made our brains not want it, what would happen? Would we take care of eachother until the last ond dies? Would we ever identify the fungus and slove it?

        so many thoughts

Yeah, reddit childfree is insanely hostile and spread to other subreddits with their hate on any child. I was childfree until i understood the concept of life and how we came to be in humanity and society. I would not exist if any one of my billions(trillions?)of ancestors decided to be child free.

This is the problem with the childfree community these days, antinatalists (who argue no one should have children) have taken over.

But they are an extreme and vocal subset of child-free people. I am happily childfree but i acknowledge that other people who do want to have kids should have them, and that we need children to sustain society.

I think hearing from parents and getting insight into their perspectives is interesting and worthwhile. Provided it’s not an unproductive dog pile of “you’ll never understand true love” or “you’re just selfish” nonsense. I’m secure in my position of being a childfree person, nothing another person says or thinks will change my mind or make me doubt myself or feel ashamed of my choice etc.

I’m childfree because I want to be and because I simply don’t want to raise children. I’m unlikely to regret not doing something I’ve never wanted to do in the first place. I also don’t want to be a surgeon or learn to play the oboe or dedicate my life to a religion or climb Everest or any number of things that take time and dedication and commitment and effort for a result/purpose I’m entirely uninterested in experiencing personally.

I also love and whole heartedly support my friends and loved ones who are parents. They have an immensely difficult job that I certainly don’t want to do, and they impress me all the time with how much care and dedication they pour into being parents. I learn so much by holding space for them and my perspectives on life are enriched by listening to theirs. My own choice to not parent is also consistently reinforced by their stories and shared experiences lol.

I feel like a live and let live approach goes a long way in supporting open and productive dialog when it comes to this particular subject.

im a bit of an antinatilist so if anything I feel the shame goes in the other direction and I think the people I know with kids are bit nuts to have kids at this point but otherwise Im sorta similar in sentiment.

I’m on “all” not really interested in the community. You do you tho. Have kids, don’t have kids. Whatever.

Anyway I’m saying most of the parents are coming from all. Source: I’m a happy parent and I’m here.

I scroll all and only block communities if I have 0% interest or if I feel the community is really looking to be a place just for the people into it. The sidebar does not really say anthing about the group so I don’t see why parents would not get into the discussions if it moved them.

IDK, I can easily see some parents posting to a community like this to say something like “Don’t do it! I did, and it was a huge mistake…”

Opposite side of the coin from the common “You’ll understand when you have kids of your own”.

Not what that means. Your kids exist. Childfree people don’t have or ever want kids, whether biological or adopted.
