Depressing that it’s only six months considering his tomfuckery, but better then the prior punishments he was getting.

Given the fact that he couldn’t walk around outside without random Korean dudes zoning in on him and smacking the shit out of him, I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that it’s going to be a particularly tough 6 months for him.

Six months hard labor, plus he’s been registered as a (low-grade) sex offender.

Johnny Somali will serve his six-month imprisonment with mandatory labor at a specialized facility in South Korea. His phone will be confiscated, severing his ability to stream. The five-year employment restriction at child and disability institutions presents long-term consequences for any future work in the country.

Coulda been more I guess, but I’m not complaining too much.

I mean, he’s clearly an asshole, but he didn’t kill or physically hurt anyone, nor did he cause significant monetary damage. I think 6 months of hard labor is appropriate and enough time to reflect on his behaviour.

Good, fuck him. It should easily be twice as long. His brand of “content” is a cancer on the wider internet and should have brought him serious negative consequences long before this.

A salient reminder not to think that your privilege travels with you. When I was a kid (here in the UK), we had a news article of a young guy who’d been caught spray painting a wall in Singapore. He was sentenced to local punishment, negotiated down with heavy political pressure to just 10 lashes on the back with a stick.

Ah, if only prisons didn’t make people worse on average ! We need Norwegian-style prisons everywhere, and we need them yesterday…

This fuckin’ protocol is a wild mix of prison abolitionists and people who think it’s hunky-dory for a man to lose six months of his life for doing dumb shit with a statue.

Not to defend the prison sentence but he did a lot more than just harass a statue.

The statue wasn’t even a factor in this court case as I understand it.

I don’t think cannabis should be criminalised. Doesn’t mean I’m going to spark up in Singapore or not think someone is an idiot for doing so.

Either you’re a fan or haven’t read much into this dude. This dudes career was going around to other countries being disrespectful, racist, inflammatory and an overall cunt for content. He’s finally facing some modicum of justice for actions that span well beyond “doing dumb shit with a statue”. Dude was insulting the judge and saying he would go around to their house mid proceedings. Literally too stupid to not be punished.

I don’t know anything about this asshole and I sure didn’t learn anything from this abysmally misleading article.

He was convicted of 8 charges, none of which were about the statue incident. Those cumulatively carried a potential maximum of 41 years in prison, or 10.5 years max for the single largest charge (sexual violence).

I don’t think any of your assertions apply to any of the comments in this thread.
