I admit that I got banned from Reddit. I suspect that after saying a bunch of stuff that was unfriendly to lord Musk, to Netanyahu and to Hamas. Since then I seem to have gotten even the most innocent comments reported, leading to a permaban.

The bans are mostly meaningless these days tho. Its so easy to make a new account and bypass detections.
not on reddit though, much harder to bypass since they upped thier bannings and detection methods this year and recently too. the ones that are bypassing on reddit usually are using hundreds of account at once and earning some money from doing it. additionally they also are using AI to indiscirminately ban people.
Its still super easy just search the web how to. Use a new browser window with new email on mobile network connection - its literally impossible to reliably fingerprint this.
Reddit can associate accounts over time.

On my lemm.ee account I just kinda joined a hexbear conversation from /all without realising it was hexbear and got downvoted to hell and banned for being vaguely anti-authoritarian.
Hexbear users routinely cause strife in other instances’ comms just because they criticize the ML regimes they support.
I was never banned from reddit. I left due to the decisions of their management, mostly regarding 3rd party app api connectivity, but also their decisions regarding the content of the users and Ai scraping, and related to singular governing structure.
I’ve not been a shit poster that I’m aware of, I think I was banned for disagreeing with their …slightly awkward… political leanings.

You’re doing an impossible job by trying to basically singlehandedly create a nice curated instance while removing all the bad stuff. Which honestly is amazing. But it’s not suprising to me that with that sort of workload you’re having a tough time and the charm of the lemmyverse is fading.

What makes people freak out about molotov ribbentrop is the agreement to partition states. the reason for this is because the USSR needed time to deconstruct factories and move them east before the luftwaffe could bomb them. The USSR made a calculated risk that by dividing poland they could move the future war front far west of where it would otherwise be if they refused a non aggression pact and just got invaded right away, and at the same time, move their war industry far east of the war front. Of course by making this calculated risk they gave an easy propaganda victory to all bourgeois nations who experience collective amnesia about every other non aggression pact, as well as their categorical refusal to enter into collective security against fascism with the “bolshevik menace” in the 1930s. I left reddit at the same time for the same reason; found Lemmy, and honestly I’ve loved it. Looking at other comments, it looks like you’re actually running an instance, so your interaction with the fediverse has been very different from mine… can definitely understand burnout from that angle!
I’d recommend just making an account on an established instance, then curating your personal feed reductively by blocking communities and posters whose content you’re not interested in. That process will take weeks, but just keep passively blocking shit you don’t want to see, and the quality of your experience will skyrocket.
Yeah I’m in the same boat. Though I will say, I have no personal experience of the stress and burden of running an instance myself. Especially one where the admins are actively trying to cultivate a non-toxic environment. That workload and the toxicity it exposes you to must be hell.
Personally I’ve had almost entirely positive experiences here, up to and including currently. But I stay out of politics, I’ve curated my subscriptions carefully and I never browse /all.
I almost exclusively browse /all, but I’m up to 897 blocked communities (sports and porn and sports and porn and sports and porn and sports and porn and sports and porn and…).
It takes some doing, but you can whittle /all down to something personalized and enjoyable to browse.
You could block lemmynsfw entirely if you want.
Is there really that much sports on Lemmy? For the longest time it seemed completely barren. Even now Soccer is just having stable but very minor activity. Formula 1 is fairly active though I guess.
And that just sounds like too much work. Much easier to see what you want to see on /subscribed and then put the phone away.

Every sports team under the sun has its own community; and redundant communities in multiple instances. No idea if those communities are active, or if they’re just made, spam /all for a couple days, then fizzle into the void, but I block em every time I see em.
Same with the furry porn instances having a different community for every breed of dog, or anime porn instances having a different community for… reasons? Idk there’s no way anime porn is actually that varied, but there are an absolute shitload of them on my block list.
Anyway, yeah it’s a lot of work all together, but it’s nothing in the scope of a single setting - every time I whip the phone out and browse for a few mins, if I see another one I don’t like, I just take the few seconds to block it. Rinse and repeat every time, and it adds up.
Most of the furry and anime porn is on a dedicated instance, just block that and you’re done.
I don’t even know how to block an instance, but even if I did, idk if I like the idea of just nuking that much content in one swoop.
Also would that block posts from users of that instance in other instances (like if one of them posted in this comment chain)? I have nothing against the folks who do enjoy that stuff - I don’t want to see the furry crap in my feed, but someone from a furry instance posting non-furry crap elsewhere is fine.

And if an entire instance is dedicated to NSFW content, the chances of missing something good are slim to none.
