World News@quokk.au•Trump escapes unharmed as gunman opens fire at White House press dinner hotel
12·4 hours agoNot going to kill off a pawn from the audience and wear a magical band-aid that can heal every trace of a gunshot wound in two days this time? But it made the last one feel so real!

9·15 hours ago…that’s not how hospice works. Hospice is just care to keep a patient comfortable through a condition they’re not expected to survive. Food can be part of keeping a patient comfortable if they’re able to eat. Some people aren’t able to eat, and then you start getting into the hard questions like whether it’s ethical to keep someone alive with a feeding tube and IV drip just so their brain can soak up more morphine, but the cutoff of life sustaining treatments depends a lot on the nature of the condition, what the patient stated when they were in a sound state of mind previously via a ‘living will’, or at the discretion of family.
But yeah, you can be on hospice for months - they absolutely feed you unless there’s some reason not to. You can also come off of hospice if the underlying condition improves on its own and it starts to look like you’ll actually recover - it’s not a death sentence or assisted suicide or anything.
This makes me realize I have no idea what poppyseed actually tastes like. I’ve had lemon poppyseed muffins/bread, which are delicious, but just taste like lemon - the poppyseed gives it a nice fine crunchy texture, but doesn’t make any detectable impact on the taste.
…and now I’m second-hand annoyed at OP’s situation of finding a product that promises to highlight that taste, but turns out to be more false fucking advertising.
I want the thing pictured in the wrapper!
Then again… random piss tests… probably not worth it.
This has deep vein thrombosis / pulmonary embolism written all over it.
Basically blood doesn’t circulate in the lower extremities because of the distance from the heart - when it stagnates for too long it starts to clot.
Then a chunk of the clot breaks off, follows larger and larger veins until it gets to the heart, gets sent smaller vessels in the lungs until it can’t fit and becomes lodged.
Really should sleep horizontally.

As opposed to using a mechanical keyboard to do it. Otherwise the headline would be “The CIA Is Clickety Clackishly Using AI to Build Emulated Versions of World Leaders”

politics @lemmy.world•MAGA Is Increasingly Convinced the Trump Assassination Attempt Was Staged
1·6 days agoTrump (like Reagan) was literally an actor, before becoming President. It is not that surprising that Trump can “act” when given an opportunity which arises.
Well yeah… it looked like acting.
Ear wounds bleed like crazy. It could be just a little nick.
Little nicks still produce a scab. His ear was back to 100% in like 2 days. A fucking zit takes longer to heal than that.
Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.
That rule absolutely does not apply to world leaders. He has mastered getting away with evil shit by playing the village idiot so people just brush it off as stupid.
It would also require the shooter to more-or-less agree to be murdered.
It would require him to agree to make an assassination attempt, fully expecting to take the shot and probably some elaborate escape plan – all without knowing his real instruction is to sit pretty while responding agents proceed to kill him. Again, outlandish and probably not how it actually went down, just an example of the kind of shit that’s less implausible than the official story, which is in direct conflict with what we saw plainly on national TV. ‘Ignore your eyes and ears’ and such.

8·7 days agoWe’ll see. Gen Z males showed up in force to vote for Trump in the 2024 election. Some of the younger ones are alright, but others are doing the whole Hitler Youth thing. Overall I couldn’t tell you if they’re any more or less shitty than any other generation, but their voting record isn’t off to a great start.

politics @lemmy.world•MAGA Is Increasingly Convinced the Trump Assassination Attempt Was Staged
2·7 days agoFew reasons:
-
It played out like a cheesey action movie. Gunshot goes off, everyone dives down behind the podium for a sec where the cameras aren’t pointed, just long enough to pull a fake blood packet out of a pocket and also it onto his face. They emerge immediately after, everyone sporting an over-the-top expression of panic, except for stone cold badass Mr prez, who just pops up with a triumphant fist pump. (reminder, this is the same guy whose life flashed before his eyes as he was recoiling away from a bird on his desk that pecked in his direction)
-
We never saw damage to the ear tissue, just blood streaked on the skin.
-
Dude just casually climbs up to an extremely obvious vantage point with a long gun a stone’s throw away from someone under Secret Service protection, during an extremely public showing of an extremely controversial figure, and is allowed time to set up the shot.
-
Days later the bandages came off to reveal there wasn’t so much as a scab, it was just magically healed up completely.
-
So how would you make something like that look semi plausible? Kill someone in the audience. Trump doesn’t give a shit about his supporters or anyone else under his power. Firefighter? People fucking love firefighters - they’ll be real mad about that.
So… It smells enough like bullshit that I’m calling it bullshit. Could have been something like the gunman was an impressionable dipshit that they knew could be easily radicalized, convinced him to take the shot, and sent him up with a fake bullet. An actual sniper nearby, possibly inside that same building, had his gun trained square onto the firefighter from an angle that didn’t put Trump at any risk, and assassinated the pawn. Cheesey action movie scene plays out, dude on the roof gets killed by responding agents, and bam: Trump is a living martyr. Would only take a few key people to be in on it.
Outlandish? Absolutely, but less so than the official bullshit we were fed, and way more in character for Trump.

News@lemmy.world•US Troops Given Nearly Empty Trays On Warships Deployed Near Iran: Report
22·6 days agoNever eat meat that looks like an oil slick
Beef and probably other red meats can get an oil-slick appearance pretty quickly from certain packaging. My very first job was grocery, part of which in the meat dept. This was always something that struck as odd: we’d get fresh (like bright red, truly fresh beef) that I’d personally cut and load it into those foam trays and plastic-wrap them. Come back the next day, and the trays I assembled would have this weird chromatic glisten like an oil slick, like they were starting to rot despite being on the shelf (refrigerated) for a single night. Dude in charge of the meat dept said it was something to do with it being sealed off from oxygen - it’d go away when cooked, and is totally fine to eat. (this could be total bullshit - but taking his word at face value. Grain of salt)
Actual rot has a similar chromatic glisten, but kinda permeates deeper into the tissue. When in doubt, the smell test will tell you everything you need to know.
Edit - getting downvotes, so just to clarify: I’m talking about mostly normal looking meat, but with that kind of multi-colored oily looking sheen. In NO WAY am I defending that strip of fucking road tar on the tray in OP’s photo.

6·9 days agoI think those might have been bulls.
I share that frustration, but discouraging voters from showing up isn’t going to help anything: focus your anger at the actual fascists, not the ballot box.
Actually achieving some meaningful reform is a complex project that requires every tool in the box. If you run into a stripped screw, don’t get mad at the screwdriver for not working, but instead reach for your other tools to use alongside the driver. Might need to grab it with a vicegrip (like a general strike) or whack it with a hammer (like a molotov cocktail), but don’t just discard the screwdriver - the screws aren’t all stripped, and the project is a lot bigger than just the one striped screw. If the next screw is also stripped, by all means light up another, uh, hammer… but the screwdriver is the easiest and most effective option for the parts of the project that aren’t already fubar.
So… advocating for alternatives when they’re called for: absolutely necessary! Throwing the screwdriver away: unnecessary and critical error.
Fortunately voting isn’t mutually exclusive to any other flavor of activism. So, unironically: yes, please do vote, as often and informed as you’re able to.
Light up some billionaire’s warehouse on the way home if you want, but voting is easier and safer than pretty much any offer method of driving some rapid reform, so start with voting, and take whatever other action you feel still needs to take place.
Lots of hate on voting lately… Why? Use every tool we’ve got.
