    I mean, what option do you have if the person just refuses to act right? From the explanation above, it sounds like they were making the meeting even more unbearable than it already would have been.

      Making the meeting unbearable is the point. It is one of few ways us peons have to make our elected officials listen to our concerns. They’re not supposed to be comfortable. Again, if you believe it’s appropriate to use state violence against a person who is clapping, I think you’ve got some messed up priorities.

          For those who are hard of hearing or understanding: if you think that violence (as in laying hands on someone) is an appropriate response to being mildly inconvenienced, you have some screwy values and should have a look at that.

          This is exactly what MLK was talking about re: the white moderate preferring a negative peace to the pursuit of justice. Fuck that noise.
