kal-el no? thats probably her best line. she probably got nepo her way into hollywood, her acting is bad as the rock, and rock has his political leanings quite questionable too. probably shoe-horned into hollywood as a cheerleader back home.

She was this super powered killing machine just WASTING humans left and right. Just seemed insanely fucked up.

There’s a scene in one of the DC movies where a german sniper is hiding ontop of a church in a french village

Ever the pillar of restraint and decorum, Wonder Woman takes down the entire fucking church to kill this one soldier.

It’s a scene so over the top with needless destruction of a beautiful historical landmark, and you wonder what the filmmakers were trying to say with it.

This is pretty silly. Superhero movies constantly feature superheroes and supervillains causing mass property damage. Superman will be thrown through buildings. Cars will be used as throwing weapons, etc.

It’s a deliberate cinematic choice. Superheroes just flying in the sky punching each other doesn’t convey the power involved in these characters. No, if you want to portray superheroes in a way that actually feels real to people, you need to show them interacting with our ordinary world. You show them treating things we experience as solid, indestructible, and immobile as mere tissue paper.

This is just “show, don’t tell.” Sure, you could have some character verbally explain that “Superman has the strength of a million men!”, but if all you saw was Superman fighting in a cloud or an empty field, that wouldn’t really mean much. You can’t feel it. Watch Superman casually pick up a skyscraper, and suddenly your mind can actually grasp the scale of his power.

I hear you whilst defending superman in the sense that, he’s either chucked through a populated building against his will to highlight the monstrosity of his assailants, or he chucks buildings with the implication that they’re empty.

In this WW scene, it’s shown to be a populated church. It just rings odd for me w.r.t to these unwritten rules of hollywood destruction that Im hyperfixated on

Christopher Reeves’s Superman was quite upstanding tbh.

Also the Actor was quite upstanding on it’s own right, he did a lot of activism for my country (chile) to be free, he fought against Pinochet in multiple occasions, like when the regime death threatened the actors guild, he came here so all the worlds eyes would point here and shield them, and he also gave his endorsement to the Chilean democratic opposition who ended up defeating Pinochet and bringing democracy back.

In a sence, Superman defeated Pinochet and brought democracy back to chile.

He was awarded the highest honour the Chilean govt can award a few years before his death.

Hollywood is fully integrated into the military-industrial complex. Inflicting disproportional damage on the population of whoever the enemy is is how The Great US Empire wages war. So that is what the population at home is meant to support. So that is what is shown to the young, easy to influence generations.

They make one movie with easy to digest anti-elite themes for every dozen that promotes competition between the working class, has libertarian undertones, or otherwise reinforces the status quo. How many Hollywood heroes promote the status quo vs challenge the status quo?

Also, Parasite is a South Korean movie, which makes it even weirder. SK is way deeper in late stage capitalism than the US if you can believe it. When Samsung alone accounts for 23% of their gdp, something’s wrong.

They already had that scene three minutes earlier into the movie, and unfortunately execs think that if you repeat something then you lose interest from your audience and thus can lose shekels.

Curiously enough, “repeating plot points and previous information that can be inferred without being told” is exempted from this issue, so there we go, characters re-explaining obvious plot points at every turn.

I mean, the easy answer is all Hollywood action movies contain gratuitous destruction for the sake of visual interest.

It was honestly my first thought as a kid: “Oh my god! That guy’s food stall was completely destroyed by that car! What will he do now? Is there anyone he can call to get it replaced?”

The simpler answer is to accept cinema violence is a childish thoughtless moment anyway, and we shouldn’t compare it too much to real life. But in Gadot’s case, I suppose gratuitous destruction fits very much with her home country’s philosophy.

I think that’s the one thing they got right unfortunately, in real life armies (usually) don’t risk soldiers trying to locate and kill a sniper, they just use things like artillery, missiles, or tanks.

If you enable the subtitles, it says Flemish.

          Took another listen:

          “Hebde da gezien”

          “Wa is er gebeurd?”

“Hebde da gezien, wa zij gedaan heeft?”

It’s perfect dialect, which surprises me, but after this it seems to devolve into gibberish. I can’t make too much out of it, besides French being thrown in, which for our country is, again, spot on, since we are divided bilingually.

“Veld” also means “field”. it’s such a generic name to give a town, but plausible.

I watched it just now and it’s just generic action movie slop? Do you get your panties in a twist when they destroy NYC landmarks in Avengers movies? It was just Nazis shooting at the good guys and them beating them in a fight.

This is so funny and emblematic of the way you people think. In this dumb movie, they are being shot at, and you wanted the character to not fight back because she needs to preserve the architecture? In the exact same way, you think real Jewish people should lay down and die if Palestinians get mad at them. Stunning

I just remember there was one line in the show, iirc by the Nazi lady, which implied that anti-Zionism is akin to some MAGA mentality. It was the only time Zionism was ever specifically mentioned in the show so it shouldn’t be that hard for you to find if you care that much.

I compare it to nazi Germany. I don’t really condemn Germans who served in the armed forces rather than be punished for draft evasion. There were soldiers who just fought as they were told to and without doing anything clearly immoral or illegal - not all we’re out there murdering Jews or civilians, or executing prisoners, or whatever. Same with Israelis. It takes a lot of courage to go to prison by active choice, and I don’t think it’s reasonable to condemn people for not having that courage unless the alternative was themselves taking part in war crimes.

While I’d say conscripts are easier to forgive than volunteer forces, they are still culpable. They offsetting the suffering they’d endure in prison onto other people, with which their respective fascistic armed forces are targeting. I’m more understanding of their position but they are still guilty.

Also, while the individual soldier may have themselves not conducted any crimes, by serving in a fascist military, you are still aiding them in committing crimes. By providing gains for that military through your service, it gives the force more opportunity and power to commit atrocities.

This is so beside the point but I was thinking about how conscription in the US wouldn’t work. A huge majority of people would either be unfit or just say no and there would be so many young people in jail the economy would grind to a halt. I love that for us

            technically mandatory,

many are able to avoid it with national service (2 years of volunteering).

many choose to evade it by pretending to be orthodox for the period of the service, and are hunted by private investigators.

many still just chose to serve their service in a cell because they refuse to enlist.

if someone ends in the IOF, and participate in a holocaust, it’s their choice and they wanted to be there. no one can say “it’s mandatory”. that excuse didn’t worked for nazis, wont work for zionists.

A bunch of my friends are Israeli and nobody should be hated for their country of origin. I’m from the US and I don’t think someone should automatically hate me because of our politicians. The people that I know served in the IDF because it was the path of least resistance, and they played in the marching band or did graphic design. You’re gonna say my ex is a bad person because he played the trombone while Netanyahu walked past him? Then I’m a genocidal murderer for having an iPhone.

Gal Gadot is just a beautiful woman and a bad actress who was briefly in a war simulation. You free palestine people just like shouting and grandstanding.

I don’t think anyone hates all Israelis. Those who refuse to collaborate with the IDF should be respected. And there are many incredibly brave Israelis who work as journalists, lawyers, etc. to help the Palestinian people.

The people that I know served in the IDF because it was the path of least resistance, and they played in the marching band or did graphic design.

Understandable on an individual level, but their silence enables Israel to continue the genocide.

OKay two things: 1)People in this very thread were wishing death upon Bernie Sanders, one of the most decent upstanding people to ever walk this earth. I don’t know what kind of mythical politician they want. Mamdani? AOC? They’re all doing the best with the DSA and what they have.

2)You are claiming that people who served in the IDF in noncombatant roles are still responsible for war crimes because they enable others to fill those roles. Then am I complicit in war crimes because I didn’t become a cop or go into the military? Doesn’t that mean there’s an empty spot for someone else?

Do you think that we hate Nazis because they were German? Because their country of origin?

We hated Nazis because they were Nazis.

And we hate Nazis even if they are not from Germany.

But we also hate the Germans who were passive and accepted Nazis as if they were business as usual, it didn’e affect them. it affected their neighbours but they did not care

We hate zionists for their genocidal ideology, not because they are from Israel, there are plenty of Israelis who fight Zionism.

I hate to break it to you but most people are just trying to live their lives peacefully. I’m an American and I hate my government but what am I supposed to do, go find trump and assassinate him and give up my entire life?

Zionism simply means the state of Israel deserves to exist. Not that they should settle and invade their neighbors. Zionism is compatible with peace. You say it like it’s a curse word. One can hate the right wing and Netanyqhu and still b a Zionist.

I 100% agree with how nobody should be hated for their country of origin.

However, actions does matter. Any participation in the IDF can by some be considered bad. If him playing trombone means someone else had to be the soldier instead of him, then it’s still contribution. Anyways these things are not black and white. My opinion is not made up entirely here, but I am leaning towards it being a contribution to their war efforts, but people aren’t exactly very mature the two years they are in IDF.

However Gal Gadot is not just a “trombone player”. She is a “trombone player” that has the attention of tens of millions of people. So far, not the biggest problem. The issue is using her huge platform to give full support to Israel for years, again and again. Even if criticized and presented with new information she keeps her full support.

If you do not consider it a genocide, then how many Palestinian deaths per Israeli is ok? 10x, 50x or 100x? Currently it is about 50x and at least 100x indirectly. That in itself can in someones eyes be justified, the problem is that it is almost just civilians, and an insane amount of children. That makes it very hard to justify. Denial of food and basic supplies is the same. The amount of journalists being killed is at a level never seen before, also. All these things that are not even remotely normal warfare, it’s almost as if it is something else entirely.

Gal Gadot acts as if your ex held speeches and wrote articles for newspaper giving unyielding support of Israel. Then not weakening his position slightly when seeing what the atrocities are doing to Palestine and its people. Then continuing giving speeches and writing articles in full support.

The difference between the two is the effect. So the difference between the two is huge.

I came back from the lake. I don’t accept your argument that we have to count lives in this manner. A lot of the children were combatants and it’s a war that Hamas started and Palestine overwhelmingly supports.

I think Gal Gadot is just fine, she’s just a patriotic citizen of her country. Whether you like her acting is up to you. I don’t think it makes sense to hate Israel simply because they are more successful at warfare. And iit’s really not okay to treat regular Israelis poorly because of their govt. Do you actually think Gal Gadot killed a Palestinian?

AFAIK Israel itself is over 20% Arab. Not seeing the problem here.

I feel bad replying to you because that was very thoughtful but I have to leave in like 5 minutes so I can’t be equally thoughtful until later. Like…it’s a war? They had a ceasefire and literally paraglided into Israel and killed and raped innocent people at a music festival and a lot of people were so drunk on rooting for the browner side that they acted like that was okay? It wasn’t even an active was and that would have been a war crime in any war. I saw the videos of them parading those violated bleeding women around and some of my friends were acting like it was justified because it was an apartheid state, but I don’t see anything justifying it.

Hamas/Palestine are infinitely more cruel, but Israel is seen as wealthier and whiter so they’re always gonna be portrayed as the villian no matter how much they baby them.

I really don’t see it as a genocide, and I have my sources and will come back to this comment later. But yeah if you shelter TERRORISTS under schools and hospitals you can’t whine when innocents get hurt? The perpetual victim shit with Palestine is so played out. If they rooted out Hamas themselves there would be no issue. Bu that random “innocent” 50 something year old woman who died and people cried about was raising and feeding a terrorist, so wasn’t she complicit?

          Unless they’re a Palestinian citizen of Israel, there’s like a 90+% chance that if they’re Israeli, they’re a Zionist.
