We know there are legitimate reaons not to show someone’s photo or reveal their name. It’s a joke about how the media represents women - or rather that it doesn’t.

Which is fair, but if the post is a “why would the media do this specific thing” it should hardly be a surprise when people go out and find out why they did that specific thing. A comical statement as part of the post acknowledging “in this case etc” would go a long way to avoiding that.
This is a post in a women’s group about a common trope that the media engages in when they’re covering a story about women.
We don’t actually need men to mansplain this to us.
I know I’m late to all this but I actually enjoyed learning that they withheld her picture because she requested it. I was over here sharpening the pitchfork and it was a relief to not need to light the torch.
The way it was presented I was like, “yeah! it’s always this way!” But with a dab of context I’m like, “Yeah! Good point! Glad they didn’t ignore her wishes anyway!”
Yeah if they had stated that fact on it’s own and if it hadn’t come from a condescending man, the fact itself would be welcome here! I was also relieved to know she had requested to not have her picture shown.
It is still odd to me that they pictured the man in the story since suicides are often not reported on anyway. And I enjoy getting into the nitty gritty of respectfully talking about these topics with other women!
