The dog owner needs to control his dog. UPS driver did nothing wrong by defending himself.

The UPS driver also took his stuff off and approached aggressively squaring up to a guy that is walking slowly forward with his hands down. Maybe he was legitimately afraid for his life from the dog, but he’s looking for a fight.

He also put up his hands to defend his head, and does not throw a punch = defense not attack

I bet he’s quite hyped up on adrenalin and already chose fight instead of flight. I would keep my distance, lots of instinct handling shit right now.

I can understand the reaction to the dog in the moment, but what followed was just over the top escalation.

Bro do you even exist? Throw a box at someone’s dog you best be ready to square up against the owner regardless of how many toddlers that pup ate that day. Dog owners threaten people just for looking at the dogs wrong.

Except his didn’t just “square up”, he aggressively stepped towards the owner with a very threatening attitude and posture. That wasn’t just getting ready to defend.

The only approach I see is hands out in a “the fuck are you doing, dude” kind of way. Even if the owner ran out yelling, driver’s response is over the top. Just keep walking away.

Yeah, audio really is needed to understand the situation.

The owner could have changed his stance after the guy reacted. Because it looked like he was just walking away at first.

I’ve had dogs chasing me while cycling quite few times this summer, and already considering bringing a pepper spray with me because it’s legitimately fucking scary. Last long ride I was already feeling paranoid passing any houses on the gravel roads because of that

So yeah I can understand very well the UPS drivers reaction, he’s afraid and angry because assholes keep their aggressive dogs off leash without fences

That driver was having a day.

You can say his reaction was over the top, but we don’t know what he’s gone through recently. He snapped, and there may be a good reason for it. A job like that can tax anyone’s patience.

Although, I have the impression that UPS treats their drives a little better than FedEx or Amazon. I’m surprised it wasn’t an Amazon driver, those guys have PTSD from their jobs.

Okay maybe it’s because I can’t see enough of the video. But it doesn’t look like there’s enough video there to show that dog was being aggressive. Yes he went towards the UPS driver. But so does my dog. My dog goes and visits anybody and everybody that walks past. And I can guarantee if somebody threw something on my dog I wouldn’t be as calm as this dude was. That driver seemed like he was having a hell of a day.

Why do you say the dog was aggressive?

It just looked excited, and the fact that it backed off straight away reinforces that.

Don’t get me wrong, these guys do get bitten by dogs and are generally afraid, so I kind of understand his reaction (though I don’t condone it).

I would like to hear the sounds the dog might have been making but this clip doesn’t appear to have any.

Honestly, every dog should either be leashed or confined to a space, without exception, so the owner had this coming 100%.

Mad or not. Excited or not. If that dog got out in the street and got hit by a car it would be 100% the owners fault for not securing the animal who is supposed to be in control.

On my instance is shows 32 up 8 down which is about what I would expect because many people treat dogs with unconditional trust and respect and therefor see leash laws as something for lesser human beings and incompetents, surely their own labrador or pitbull isn’t like all the other ones.

The driver is a scared little boy who watched too much MMA. Instead of protecting himself and retreating to safety, he feels the need to remove his hat and glasses and walk TOWARDS the man who I assume is the dogs care taker. He comes at the guy with open, “what’s going on” vibes fully cocked up and ready to rock. Bets that he has road rage problems too.
