Having gone through their post history, they’re generally very appreciative of simple things and beautiful sights, so I’d assume unbelievably good =)

The important thing these days is: it must be Instagram worthy. That’s all that matters.

The picture’s not terribly Instagram worthy, but it looks like a really cool trip and I’d love to do that.

Ugh… Right… Today I was at a place with my partner and a group of younger (not as in young, just younger than us) girls behind us. They were talking about some place they were familiar with and how cute it was, how they hadn’t been there in so long

“That’s like the most instagramable place ever!” I swear I could see the back of my skull, that’s how hard my eyes rolled

Told my partner, “I guess we judge places by how instagram worthy they are…” Their reply, “so cringe”

I don’t use any of that stuff. Still, I don’t have an issue with the language. It sounds like they just mean it’s cute. I use the word “Google” to refer to web searches, but I don’t use Google.

I think policing language is stupid. You can’t know what they meant from what they said. They could be saying they only like it to share on social media, or it could have meant it’s just really cute. I think judging the language of strangers beyond this is just a waste of energy and a good way to make yourself feel worse —I say this fully recognizing that I’m doing the same thing.

Also depends on the community. Some would be like: OMG, obviously, the mattress cover has not been ironed!

Nah that’s good. A proper mattress shouldn’t be taken for granted outside of the west.

how can you look at that and not immediately know if they mean unbelievable negatively?

As long as there’s a mosquito net I’d still be thrilled. Going to sleep hearing the crickets and the water sounds like bliss.

I have actually done that, just not on a boat and I had a sleeping bag and pad instead of a bed. Even a crappy real bed sounds nice.

I too have been to Borneo and saw the orang-utans. Mosquito nets are not guaranteed, but yeah, with one it looks like a pretty sweet spot. Certainly better than a lot of the places I stayed at in South-East Asia .

Cool place. I didn’t think you had been, I was more referring to the OP. I didn’t do a river cruise, though. I worked in Brunei for about 5 months, and went to Sabah to see the apes and climb Mt. Kinabalu before leaving. This was in 1994 and sadly I no longer have the photos.

I always say the unofficial motto of SEA is 'What’s that smell?"

It’s not posted to some flavor of disappointing/rage community. You don’t see many negative things posted to a general pics sub.

I’d not be happy with that spot, but I can see how some people who don’t think things through could think it’s dope before actually sleeping a night there.

I think that it looks great but it doesn’t look big on privacy so I think that my wife would be a bit concerned about that.
