People in other countries are not dumb and neither are Americans.

Making decisions as a collective and on a national level is really difficult. Americans’ voices are just amplified because they dominate media and the economy. This is further amplified by the fact that the state and structures support perverse incentives and systematically reward people for not acting in collective interest.

Thinking you’re smart and everyone else is dumb is such immature “I’m 14 and this is deep” kinda bullshit that it really makes me think negatively of any person expressing this opinion. Stop blaming people (who are your peers and neighbours and community) and start blaming leaders and systems.

But I guess none of this makes for a quick, funny meme.

  • I gave it up at season 2 when I first started watching.

Then I watched Better Call Saul years later and it was one of my all time favourites. Then I went back to Breaking Bad and liked it even better than Better Call Saul. Breaking Bad didn’t resonate with me initially and I’m so very glad I have it another chance.

  • My kids keep taking my Steam Deck and PC for gaming, so I’m building them their own machine. This is for indie and emulated games. I’m bidding on broken laptops on eBay to extract the motherboard to use as a standalone lounge PC like this video shows. Given today’s hardware prices, this has been a great bargain.

I’ve gotten the mobo extracted and working well with Bazzite outside the case. Just waiting for my parts to arrive mod the cooling and make a case for it. It’s like my own DIY Gabe Cube.

It’s been great fun and I would highly recommend it if you’re looking for a cheap option. Don’t think I would even be able to buy 16GB of DDR5 ram in the price I’ve gotten this whole laptop (with soldered ram included).

  • I remember reading somewhere that people follow a predictable course when they’re new to the internet:

    1. Curiosity - use the internet to search for and look up info directly on your interests, or go down the wikipedia rabbit hole, look up lyrics of songs you like, etc.

    2. entertainment - internet culture specific communities and their entertainment. This is the bit about memes and cat pictures and things.

    3. Infotainment - spending all time steeped in new evolving news, whether thats politics or media news or sports related or whatever.

Most of the western world has gone through this together, but other countries (such as India) have had internet come to the masses with mobile internet and are following this path now.

But the majority of the developed world is on the deep end of constant streams of infotainment on current events and politics. This constant exposure and decrying the downfall of humanity looks set to continue. I wonder what comes after.

  • I have sympathy for the point he was making to say it is really difficult to choose correctly and that guides can point people in confusing directions. And veterans who advocate taking the difficult path can make it more confusing.

But he needs to stop acting like a noob and be the tech guru he claims to be. He needs to contribute to the conversation by saying “it can be difficult to choose as a beginner…but here are 3 good options… Mint, Bazzite, etc etc”. He can even cover the common pitfalls for beginners and oddities of Linux misbehaving with certain hardware and how one can go about resolving the issues.

I wasn’t outraged at his first video as many others were years ago. But running a tech media company, having truckloads of expertise in house, supposedly wanting to support self-hosting and framework laptops, etc…and then doing this shit…come on man.

  • I still like tech and like making things too. Really glad I made my gaming PC and server before this current hardware crisis. I keep to areas not affected by AI or hardware problems. I made a bunch of mechanical keyboards/macropads, hitbox leverless fight controllers, etc. I want to make an emulation arcade machine for my kids but AI induced RAM crisis has made that difficult. Want to dabble in home automation too but I’ll wait till I have the time to take that on. The more hardware modding I can do and the more woodwork I can incorporate, the better.
