I’m really not looking forward to working with Gen Alpha. They’re going to be the ones to champion AI replacement, naively believing it’s going to get them ahead.

No offense intended to individuals of that generation. You’ve only known a world where technology does most of the work. The corporations that will exploit your knowledge are the real problem.

as someone in gen-z who didn’t have a ton of limiters on my screen time. Gen alpha is fucked. I was only constantly exposed to the internet starting at 8 and I can only imagine how muchvworse it will be for someone who had a screen in their face since before their brain could form memories.

My buddy who works in a high school said he was working on something in a classroom for longer than usual witnessed the end of two class periods - the last few minutes when the lesson was over but the bell hadn’t rang yet. Instead of kids turning to each other and socializing until the bell rang the entire class just simultaneously reached into their pockets and pulled out their phones in silence. He asked and the teacher said it was absolutely typical.

People are using LLMs as search engines when these things require at least 10x the energy to achieve the same result. If all Google queries were transferred to LLMs we wouldn’t have enough energy in the world to power that crap.

      Fuck LLMs, stop being lazy.

Not to mention that they’re actively training our replacements, while simultaneously teaching generative AI how to better exploit human ignorance.

Of course if Google was the Google of 10+ years ago and actually provides you with relevant, good search results instead of ad infested dribble that would help.

I don’t want to be subject to the output of generative AI and yet and I continuously am because AI bros oppose things that would enable my preferences (e.g. requiring AI output to be watermarked or tagged) and shove it in places I visit regularly. So fuck them and their ocean boiling algorithms that will never make art worth seeing, prose worth reading, or music worth hearing.

Some of my students use AI. They regularly submit assignments with incorrect information because even though they got the ai to do the research for them they don’t know which part to pull. In a niche science subject, ai doesn’t always have the answers. Especially when I’m using information that hasn’t been published online or that has been paywalled in journals.

It’s very depressing to see them use ai for something that should be simple reasoning as well, like “compare and contrast coal power to solar power, you may use your notes”.

Using corporations products enables corporation to exist.

We generally dislike corporations, especially the ones that have no regard to human creativity.

Besides, if it insults them they can go and ask chat gpt to tell them they are awesome.
