I haven’t seen this kind of scratched liberalism since the outrage against account pronoun preferences years back.

Maybe “struggle session” is the wrong term because there’s a clear and obvious side for comrades and another for scratched liberals.

Maybe Hexbear needs occasional flypaper sessions for the community’s health.

Being cautious of white people is absolutely the right attitude. I have white skin, and too many times have I been talking to some white guy who I thought was fairly reasonable until they hit me with some frothingfash shit and assume I’ll agree because I’m a straight-passing white guy.

I 100% don’t blame anyone who’s sus of me because of my skin

You hit the core of what lmayo people often either can’t or won’t understand; it’s about systems, not individuals.

and now that you bring it up i wonder how much liberal capitalitalist hyper individuality and meritocracy contributes to protecting whote supremacy.

          liberal capitalitalist hyper individuality

This is a primary support system for white supremacy. From it spawns “I got mine, fuck you” and a number of other social poisons that maintains the white supremacist status quo.

When personal identity is perceived as something bought and worn like Twitter flair emojis, it makes being a disadvantaged person seem like a choice.

          To quote /u/BeamBrain

White supremacy is the black hole at the center of liberal thought: not directly observable, but made apparent by how all of their other ideas orbit around it.

It’s crazy just how true this is. And this is especially so when you’re a very generic NPC-looking white guy to boot. Nearly all chuds just assume if you look like them you think like them. It’s like, hey, you’re a white guy so you get tons of privilege, why would you ever want that to end?

yea my appearance is very much “basic white guy” jeans, T-shirt, and flannel most of the time. I’ve been talking to guys that I’ve worked with for months, long enough for me to start thinking “ok, sure maybe they’re your average"nonpolitical” guys who don’t bother with politics because they think it doesn’t really affect them, maybe I can push some union ideas, stuff like that", then they heard something on the radio and start ranting about “alphabet people” and “groomers” all while my bi ass is standing there :im-in-danger: and I start thinking about a career change

I’m trying to remember the name of a multiplayer game that supposedly did their own flypaper test a few years back. Allegedly they had a right-wing dogwhistle as one of their preset report-abusive-user reasons. But instead of banning players that reason was used against, it was used to build up a database of players who frequently abused the report-user function and used that specific reason frequently - and they got the ban en masse. This is only half-remembered from some /r/technology post I read a few years back so it may not have happened at all. But if it really did, I’d love to know the name of the game.

League of legends (at least I think it was them) had a “report for being unskilled at the game” option that had no effect except for making the system start to ignore reports from whoever used it

I have no idea what game you’re thinking of, but if you remember I’d love to know too because it’s even funnier than this

I wasn’t early enough to witness this so-called “pronoun struggle,” but if any receipts exist, I’d love to see. I haven’t committed enough masochism lately.

Tbh in a lot of ways those early sessions were basically a relitigation of the chapo-stupidpol split on reddit. Very similar vibes.

I don’t have any receipts but I remember a lot of JAQing lol I made a post parodying that stuff at the time

I feel like the misogyny really tends to come out most whenever there’s a discussion around cishet dating, which is interesting. Cishet dating seems like a mess, but I think it’s something that goes unexamined maybe because of how personal it is to those involved.

I’m not sure how familiar you are with the “bro code” but a lot of the so-called rules that dudebros put out from it reek of ruinously relationship-sabotaging indoctrination. One of the most glaring examples is the edict that infidelity is something that bros are never supposed to disclose to the girlfriends or spouses of other bros, even after bros brag about it with each other and even encourage such behavior.

Paradoxically, one of the most common cliches of the “bro code” is “never trust a woman.” susie-baffled

A hot new takeaway for me from this is that while “I haven’t seen a lot of misogyny on this site” may just indicate a professional touch-grass , it may also indicate a fly for the flypaper.

I’m not gonna lie, I’m like three seconds from leaving this site forever over this bullshit. It’s getting old. I don’t care if it was useful as a trap or whatever. It shows that we still have shitheads in the walls; All of it makes me uncomfortable. Just fucking take care of this shit without exposing me to the nonsense.

The post about the planned action for the misogyny was just an announcement post, some mods did mention making honeypot posts to catch misogynists but the banned users pretty much just decided to go mask off at any mention of misogyny after that post

you know what this current purge reminds me of? the downvote struggle session which led to the transphobe purge, it started normal we some small mod action to get the people downvoting trans posts to stop and then led to a bunch of people going mask off transphobic and admins doing a big purge

overall i think its a good idea, and like the great transphobe purge made the site culture better i think this one will have the same results

I think I have missed every single creepy relationship/incel struggle session because I was doing yard work. This is a great motivator to continue doing yard work so I can continue not seeing creepy incel shit on my leftist social media website. Or at least see them after the mods have already banned all the incels.

Please read the thread, especially AcidSmileys top comment. This isn’t a ‘haha hexbear turns anything into a struggle sesh’ struggle but a struggle session in the legitimate sense of okay, a significant portion of the user base should reflect and self crit. Afaict the mods didn’t intend for it to be first and foremost a flashpoint for people to tell on themselves but that’s how it’s ended up

Ah k. I don’t know the sequence either cos of timezone weirdness. I think the mod post us in response to a number of posts in recent months that have been either misogynistic or the comment section has devolved into misogyny, which may or may not include the misandry kne you’re talking about (many example posts are discussed at length in the mod thread, I won’t re-link here). The mod post about coming down harder on that behaviour is a response to that. Maybe nkt for yourself then but for the players at home this isnt antelope-popcorn please read the post
