  • 99% won’t do when the consequences of that last 1% are sever.

As an example, your whole post is great but I can’t help but notice the one tiny typo that is like 1% of the letters. Heck, a lot of people probably didn’t even notice just like they don’t notice when AI returns the wrong results.

A multi billion dollar technical system should be far better than someone posting to the fediverse in their spare time, but it is far worse. Especially since those types of tiny errors will be fed back into future AI training and LLM design is not and never will be self correcting because it works with the data it has and it needs so much that it will always include scraped stuff.

  • Mostly because having a disorder that is a daily reminder of how much work it is just to function on a day to day basis and apparently remembering the fuck ups way more than the good things since the fuck ups are basically the same thing each time. It feels worse and worse each year, and honestly my biggest fear is that I will get dementia and not be able to tell because it that is how I have felt my entire life.

That said, reminding myself that I’m doing pretty well is the counterbalance that keeps me going. I’ve accepted my limits and just roll along with becoming a jack of all trades that still has to relearn anything I haven’t done for a few years. Meds help while they are active, but they don’t work 24 hours a day.

I’m not suggesting there is nothing. I am pointing out that FMLA requires access to a doctor who can do the paperwork and a significant number of people in the US don’t have that access.

I know from personal experience that getting FMLA sorted out is a giant pain in the ass when one does have access.

  • Allowing posts to be created for communities on shut down instances is something that should be solved with a technical solution.

Discovery of communities is a much bigger issue than which community someone happens to land on to look for activity. Once people get a sub list going they don’t have easy ways to know new communities are being created. Even if they browse All they might be sorting for popularity. If they use Local they never see stuff from other instances. If they look at an instance they won’t see content from defederated instances. They also won’t see the external content that nobody from that instance has subbed to.

Having more than one community with the same name and topic is something that could be addressed by encouraging people to find similar communities. The easiest would be an indicator that other federated communities with the same name exist that they could review and maybe click the join button. The end result would be more people finding out about similar communities across instances and far less need for crossposting to get more eyeballs.

As a side note, large instances are preferred by users who mostly view because the more people means more federation since communities on other instances only show if someone subs. That means the big instances are the ones that will grow because they already show most of the content by default.
