Oh wow, I was not aware of that! Very cool.

I have not heard about gancio, I will check that out, thanks!

True about the empty room problem. That is a problem with the fediverse in general with new features, which is why I think it is better to try to integrate these features with existing platforms, or to consider building new platforms that are additive with regard to features, rather than isolated. A classified ad site for the fediverse is nice. A site that lets you post microblogs and classified ad posts would be even better. One that allows all of that plus private groups and events would be even better still. It seems platforms are relatively resistant to adding new features and prefer to stay isolated as individual feature platforms, which is a losing strategy imo.

They remade Riven, and it got a sequel, Obduction.
I heard this spoken in his voice from south park, like the “it’s a plane” dude.

Gotcha. Well hope I set you on the right track at least, not sure what else I can do to troubleshoot. At least p.piefed.social works, so that’s good.

I recommend trying a smaller instance on piefed, it is better than Lemmy in a number of ways.

I don’t consciously remember making it, but I might have made it in the troubleshooting phase. In any case, still doesn’t explain why I cannot login with any credentials at piefed.social. I am able to login to p.piefed.social, but those exact saved login credentials do not work on piefed.social.

When I click that I get a blank website that says not found, so I am not sure where in the user list you saw that. Unless I just can’t see it because it’s banned. I do not recall consciously making another username after I was banned, unless I had done that to try to see if it was an IP ban.

The username is korendian, and the handle is @robert.meyer86@piefed.social. Neither of those work to login at piefed.social, nor does my email, but I can use my email and that password to login at p.piefed.social. I think it is some discrepancy in the naming system, as viewing my profile from different sites shows different username/handles. Here is a view from several different sites showing that korendian and robert.meyer86@piefed.social are the same account, but depending on where it is viewed, korendian and robert.meyer86 both show as the username or handle (I.e., piefed.social seems to have korendian@piefed.social as the handle, but Lemmy.zip shows the handle as robert.meyer86@piefed.social. I am honestly unsure which is the right one to be honest).

Seriously though, why we are clinging to continued federation is beyond me.

The fediverse is built on voluntary connections between communities. This post is literally a post to discuss and debate the issue. There is no active proposal or vote to defederate from lemmy.world, unless they defederate from one of the mutual anarchist instances first. It’s basically saying “if you do this, it will be bad, so don’t do it”. I.e., using solidarity between communities to force the issue one way or another. In what way is that cowering or “trending towards fascism”? Defederation is built into the fediverse, and it is not like it is being used willy nilly here to silence people. At least not by any of the instances signed on to this flotilla. This is a response to that actually, more than anything.

Really alarmed by the lack of professionalism in the leadership of some of these platforms. Rimu’s response to me being shadow banned due to a glitch in the login screen of piefed.social was “yea, that happens, you should probably find another instance.”. That’s how I ended up on anarchist.nexus. 😆
When did I say anything about it being rapid or sudden change? Climate change is slow, and the effects are felt over decades. I am fully aware of this, and just because the effects are akin to boiling a frog, it does not mean that the ultimate effects will not be devastating.
I’m not a procrastinator, I’m just a temporarily embarrassed polymath.
Did you also call that the water would have a grapefruit flavoring option? Lmao.
If we keep burning oil fields and melting the Arctic which releases massive methane emissions, then we could be pretty fucked. Maybe not all non-microbial life, but we could be headed toward lizard world again.
That’s a pretty over simplistic analogy. We didn’t build the ecosystem, and we are not going to be rebuilding anything if it collapses. Whatever is left will survive and adapt, and maybe some species smarter than us will evolve in a few hundred million years that will actually learn how to properly live in their environment without destroying it. Or if some humans do survive, they will be able to rebuild society based on an understanding of ecological limits.
Yes, some have taken steps to move away from fossil fuels, but not all, and most scientists agree it is too late without negative emissions. I agree that it is largely driven by capitalism, and that in and of itself is a root cause of many problems with our species and should be done away with, but if it takes the entire world falling apart to make the realities undeniably apparent, then so be it. I’m not saying I want it to happen, just that that may be the only thing that can make the conditions for real lasting change.
The problem with friendica (at least from my perspective) is that it is a janky piece of software and the UI is very difficult to figure out. Sure there are events, but damned if I could figure out how to make one and invite someone to it in a way that makes sense and is easy to use. Same with groups, it’s there, but in a way that seems held together with glue and duct tape. That is not to say that it did not have its place in the history of the development of the fediverse, but like walled garden platforms that have gone the way of the dodo, the same applies for the fediverse, not all will survive. Just because one platform failed to fully implement these features in a clean and user friendly way does not mean it’s impossible or that it is not a goal worth pursuing.
