All the communist revolutions are ripe material for all kinds of games
i remember that brief moment i had the vague hope that the latest Far Cry game was going to be a Castro’s revolution simulator
instead we got some lib shit “you are CIA backed liberal rebels fighting the Castro regime and castro is that scary guy from breaking bad”
also: Castro’s revolution literally has the tenor and beats of a great video game! small group of survivors, great characters, slowly unlocking the map and destroying depots and doing side quests for locals to gain their trust, and a final setpiece boss battle against the armored train!! oh and great stealth/evasion section as Che’s squad tries to sneak through the swamp under fire from the embankment
Not quite what you want, but Partisans 1941 has bits and pieces of that in an isometric stealth game
It does seem like a good videogame story. Would there be some opensource game that could be easily modified to this story?
been thinking about it myself. depends on whether it would go the 1st person open world route or like some kind of low res deep systems tactical management squad game
a mafia style open world game setting up protection rackets, extorting the wealthy, robbing banks, etc. for the cause.
could be a fun strategy game but less conventionally a 3rd person rpg with a lot of melee combat would kinda rock since the chinese civil war is one of the very few real life settings you actually had swords and machine guns on every side. have a skill tree that is about the forms of theory and praxis your character is using
Yeah this sounds good as hell tbh
You have skill trees for theory, praxis, and mass line. Theory mains will gain the mystical powers of dialectics. Praxis points will allow you to upgrade weapons, such as captured Japanese Arisaka rifles. The mass line will give you peasant allies who can help you sneak into towns or help set up ambushes.
