/edit holy shit it’s real. The Kamala character was a stereotype of an African tribal who could not talk and made only animal noises. He waved around a spear and casted hexes on his opponents. This tweet is like one degree of overt racism below just straight up calling Kamala Harris the n-word.
FD signifier did a pretty good video essay on the history of black characters and performers in wrestling, particularly WWE. As you said, it was really bad, and still is kind of suspect sometimes. I recommend giving it a watch, even if you’re not into wrestling.
I first saw his video on white anxiety when Bo Burnham’s Inside was all the rage, and it was refreshing to see somebody not completely dunk on it, but also putting it into the context of the breakdown of the liberal facade of welfare for white folx, making them suddenly realize what all marginalized peoples have known for ages. Been a fan ever since.

FD is so good. I first heard about him because I heard (funny clown hammer) trying to dunk on him, and assumed that probably meant he was good.
