Lead is one of the cheapest metals by density.
Also one of the heaviest by volume.
A quick google suggests lead is about 1/3 the price of iron ore. Nickel is around the same as lead, but it’s only about 3/4 as dense.
It’s also added for sweetness and coloring sometimes.
