The very bad news is, Nvidia says turning DLSS 5 on will currently reduce performance by 50-60%. And that’s across the board—no matter the game.

Funny how DLSS went from a performance enhancing to a performance reducing technology. Kind of the state of the whole gaming industry.

Could be argued it was always just a “graphic improving” technology, and has simply moved past the point of equivalent exchange.

For Nvidia? Literally nothing. AI sales and more expensive GPU sales, Jensen’s cock must be trying to get erect so much right now.

The appropriate use of this technology would be to make rendering dirt cheap and then apply style transfer as a constant overhead. But really, it should be something the game does. Like if you develop on some 500 FPS relic of an engine, but train with offline renders of whatever you want it to look like. Full global illumination, true subsurface scattering, flawless hair sims. all that fancy shit. Spend an hour path-tracing each frame. That’s the look you’ll fake on top of a fullbright Source g-buffer.

To be fair, it’s current state is nowhere near release state but either way I don’t know anybody that would actually want their game to look slopified. It looks so bad not to mention the fact that I want all of the performance out of the overpriced graphics card in my system

It’s releasing today so this is “release state”. It’s supported in NBA 2K27, which releases tomorrow.
