A student pilot successfully landed a plane by herself after her instructor jumped to his death mid-flight.

She said her instructor told her “You know what to do” before leaping from the aircraft.

The article shows a picture of the instructor next to an image of a small single engine cessna.

Comment reads: You could literally land a plane by yourself after your instructor jumps to his death mid-flight and they’d still use a picture of a man.

You clearly didn’t read what I wrote with enough attention to detail.

I did not argue that the bit of text didn’t have the information, but that it was encoded only in pronouns and not subject of the post. And encoding gender in pronouns does not work in German. If you had used the correct translation for student which is Student it would have been less clear. Coed (Student with female pronouns) is the word for Studentin. You wouldn’t translate Bäckerin as bakress, I sincerely hope.

May I politely ask why this has become a topic of conversation here? There’s nothing in German in the post, no one is speaking German in the comments - why would the post have to cater to the way you read pronouns in German?

It doesn’t. And I have no idea why they argue that way. I just said that I didn’t read the pronouns as being gender specific. This might be to do with my nationality and hence warped perception of language.

I just said that I didn’t read it as being gendered at first. And get attacked for it.

I have to admit I was a little confused when you first replied to me as well. Probably just a language barrier thing.

What I tried to say was that you don’t need to read the pronouns in the post to understand the meaning. Hence I didn’t. I don’t know how to explain this in plain English.
