A trans teen withdrew from the girls’ division of an Irish Dance contest in Florida after the organizers were pressured by state officials to kick her out. However, it is unclear whether the girl’s participation in the competition would have actually violated any law.

“No young person should become the center of a political fight simply because they want to participate in the activities they love,” said Public Policy Manager for Equality Florida Quinn Diaz in a statement. “At a time when Florida is competing to attract visitors, talent, and major events from around the world, the question for our leaders is simple: will we send a message that our doors are closed, that ours is only a state for some? Or will we make it clear that everyone is welcome here?”

The Irish dance contest is governed by the Irish Dance Teachers’ Association of North America (IDTANA). That organization has trans-inclusive policies that allow competitors to decide how they compete. They have previously defended those policies, and the community has supported that move, including by setting up a petition to the Dublin-based governing body, An Coimisiún le Rincí Gaelacha (CLRG), to voice their unequivocal support for the inclusion of trans dancers.

This is what they want. They want trans people to just disappear. And it’s blatantly sexist as well. You’re telling all these girls that they can’t dance better than a biological male? Florida continues to be just the worst.

They want trans people to just disappear.

      Them:

      Their chant:

      Jews will not replace us!

      Those they include with Jews:

Their basis of drumming up support from the masses for this:

If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.

      -Leviticus 20:13

Leviticus 20:13 actually means no butt stuff with women and no vaginal stuff with men. It also originally intended missionary only for man on woman and saving doggy style for man on man, but as long as you don’t have overlapping sexual acts and positions for the straight stuff and the gay stuff you are in the clear.

It’s a continuation of the whole “no mixed fabrics” thing and is part of God’s autism expression along with foods not touching on the plate.

Seems like a straightforward interpretation to me. They could have just said “If a man has sexual relations with a man, both of them have done what is detestable”, but they chose to add the “as one does with a woman” bit.

Didn’t say they were logical. Its just the one part of that specific book they agree with because its “icky” to them.

No. They want a political distraction so you don’t notice that both parties support the corporate agenda equally.

The trans community is (sadly) just collateral damage. It could just as easily be hippies, Jews, juggalos, Justin Timberlake fans etc.

how does this even help their own cause?

God forbid some young people might actually meet a trans person (or some other “othered” person) and think they’re okay, and through this casual interaction and others like them coming to realize that, when it comes to inborn characteristics, people are all more alike than we are different.

If some statement or action separates groups and creates divisions between individuals, it helps their own cause, which is to control the populace by any means possible.

And they do like 'em young, in all sorts of ways, hence the extreme focus on young people charting an independent course, even a life path born of necessity such as being gay or trans. If you’re gay or trans, you are already not going to fit into the little box they want to trap you in, just by default. You may force yourself to fit it, but at what cost? So you make your own way, and they don’t want the other kids seeing that and thinking, hey, I could make my own way too.

Gay and trans kids prove to those who get to know them that there are many valid life paths, many different ways of making a good life for yourself that do not involve the usual narrative of getting married and having kids, and often that you can and will escape a family of origin that does not accept you as you are. That frightens authoritarians and controllers, a lot.

You know what else scares the bejeebus out of them? People accepting other people, talking with each other as their equals, and finding out they have the same shared values.

Plus, if they shut down a dance they think it reminds everybody of who’s in charge, something a small town dictator will never pass up.

Because they want to live in the freest country in the world so they live freedom and shout about their freedoms. And in order for that to happen they have to take away everyone else’s freedoms

I don’t think that 2nd amendment thing many Americans are so proud of actually works.
Seems to me authorities and politicians are persecuting vulnerable minorities without consequence.
And the 2nd amendment is mostly used for schools shootings and other crimes.

The article didn’t say but I feel like the only that that should matter is if the actual competitors care whether the trans person is competing, not whether politicians care or not.

Lemmy users certainly seem to think certain types of segregation is ok. Everyday on All, I see Womenstuff@piefed.blahaj.zone whose first rule is women only trans inclusive.

If a person wants to exclude others from their “space” just because those others are trans, or gay, or whatever, then that person needs to shut the fuck up and deal with the problem in their own head. Because that’s where the problem really is and the rest of us shouldn’t have to deal with their bigoted bullshit.

That’s your prerogative to think that way but you hold the minority opinion and I hope it stays a minority opinion.

No, opposition to segregation isn’t a minority opinion. There are no 'Whites only" safe spaces that are socially acceptable anymore, and you’re disgusting for wanting the equivalent of that.

In 1,000 BCE when we were sending women who were on their periods into the woods so that they wouldn’t dirty the rest of the tribe I guess. It’s 2026. Gender is a social construct. “gendered spaces” has never been a majority opinion thing in history, and every society has had periods of unisex equality and periods of extreme segregation.

Let’s not bring back the extreme segregation when we’re actually pretty close to abolition of such incredible bigotry and stupidity.
