On Tuesday, the European Parliament will vote on a request for urgent procedure aimed at reviving the previously rejected, indiscriminate mass surveillance of private communications ("Chat Control 1.0"). This move, pushed by the EPP group and EU Member States, is not only an unprecedented parliament

I just watched the EU parliament plenary and they just voted in favor of Chat Control. I can’t understand what’s going on in their head. The last speaker before the vote had very good points.

I think we should now verify who voted in favor and have all their communications be public from now on.

    The problem ia that you’re assuming their decisions are in good faith. They’re very much not. Chat control = control. Destroying privacy only benefits the local gov.

      I’m not assuming their decisions are in good faith. I’m assuming they represent/belong to a party with guidelines and are voting publicly.

      And it shows. The left and the greens have voted with consistency against. Just to many no-shows to make a difference, however there were no-shows from both sides.

      But, the slight left, soc-dems, or however they are called, and center, has, with very little exceptions (which I salute), exclusively voted for it. And this is not according to my understanding of the guidelines but I suppose this is subject to interpretations.
