I see. A vanishingly small capitalist class? From where I am sitting , that “class” isn;t getting smaller, just more desperate as they are running out of ways to extraxt wealth from those who work, so the attempt become more and more egregious and obvious.

1: Live the night, close shutters the day
2: Reduce activity to the essential
    3: Eat and drink fresh
4: Share the knowledge, so that others do the same

(Wait, is this a “How to be a zombie” checklist ?)

As it turns out, it’s called global warming since it is affecting the whole world. Now that heat waves are becoming a large problem in NA and Europe, Western media (being based there) is more likely to cover that. But lots of places have already been experiencing greater storms, floods, etc. due to the increase in global temperatures. And from my own experience in Asia, it’s really hot in the summer now, sometimes over 34 degrees (Celsius), far more than just a few years ago!

It’s nothing to do with Western media, it’s bad elsewhere too (over 50C in India last year and the rising sea levels are obliterating islands, for example) but it affects Europe the most.

That’s just what the media is reporting on. Actually some other regions are having even more extreme heat waves although it’s not everywhere on earth, obviously.

      https://csi.climatecentral.org/climate-shift-index?lat=23.56399&lng=-96.67969&zoom=2

      https://csi.climatecentral.org/climate-shift-index?lat=-7.71099&lng=-42.42187&mapType=anomalies&zoom=2

The current strong El Niño that is forming is highly predictive of severe heat in many places across the world, although there are some exceptions. So we can expect this to continue, albeit the exact geographic extent will likely shift.

I mean yeah but that’s not what capitalist means, did you mean to put Oligarch class or corrupt owner class?

If you are here asking: “Is this a science meme?”

Probably, yes. We use the Dawkins definition of meme: a replicating idea, not just an image macro with a fact on it. A good post here doesn’t need to teach you something. It needs to make you ask something: who, what, where, when, and especially why or how.

Science isn’t a filing cabinet of facts, it’s a conversation. For example, a photo of an eel or other localized wildlife counts because most people never see one, and wonder is the first step of inquiry. A car meme counts if it makes you curious about what’s under the bonnet. If you want to talk about something you noticed in the world, chances are someone else wants to talk about it too.

We moderate for vibe, not category. Pruning is light, especially where a post creates interesting discussion. Experimenting is encouraged.

See the pinned paper on Shitposting as Public Pedagogy if you want the academic case for why this works.
