The issue with Google is much worst than i tought.
Imagine this: you’ve diligently stripped down your Android device, eschewing Google Play Services for a leaner, more privacy-respecting experience. You’ve embraced custom ROMs like GrapheneOS, taking control of your digital footprint and reclaiming your autonomy. Then, you try to access a website. Instead of a simple check, you’re met with an impenetrable barrier, a digital “Sorry, you are not welcome here.” This isn’t a hypothetical scenario; it’s the stark reality for a growing number of users thanks to Google’s latest iteration of reCAPTCHA.
I have a device with Play Services but I’m not going to be installing a stupid app just to read a website.
Archived articles linked from PieFed are already affected on my laptop. Currently, there remains an eye button that lets me open the older captcha version that requires me to recognize and pick photos of road infrastrucutre.

Thank for sharing the info. So the internet is becoming more and more locked. :(
That means degoogling devices isn’t enough. Need to degoogle the Internet as well.
Please do complain to websites when you’re locked out, rather than (re)installing play services.
Please do complain to websites when you’re locked out,
Easier said than done if you can’t get to the websites contact page.
Yeah that’s the only way : phase out google.
fuck em, the site was probably useless to begin with
I know right. Talk about a great way to know which websites to avoid.
Maybe they are not well versed in tech. And the captcha also served to help google’s AI…imo, we ahould send them complain so they will realise the probem
On the plus side, the number of people degoogling is becoming significant enough that they are risking ant trust action.
