When clowns stop defending and downplaying the USSR 30 years after the empire collapsed, I’ll stop joking about it!

couldnt you put your effort into something worthwhile? make fun of the current authoritarian regimes instead of trying to “own the libs tankies”

I do loathe authoritarians of all shapes, yet nobody crawls out of the woodwork to moan nearly so loudly as when I “own the tankies”, as you put it.

I ain’t religous, but there’s not much use in preaching to the choir!

Why would you ever limit yourself to academic sources?

Personally, I’d prefer sources that were actually there to any “academic source”.

But that’s just me, you do you, professor.

No one is limiting anyone to academic sources, please don’t try to spin what’s said. It makes you worse at discussion.

What academic sources have you read about the internal functions of the USSR?

lol you don’t need a thesis to know that people having to lining up for basic essentials is broke for a superpower.

fuck mate, even in the 80s you couldn’t just go to the store and buy sour cream - they had no plastics industry, so you’d have to bring your own container to a vendor you know that had received sour cream recently, and they’d measure it out into your container.

Estimate go from 40-60 percent of the entire GDP being wasted on defense because you gotta keep those satellite stans under control.

Read- none of note. Personal experience as a volunteer with a refugee resettlement agency and interacting with refugees from Soviet states- a fuck ton.

Meanwhile, the US spends it’s time destroying other countries and installing dictatorships that people flee from and are wondering why the hell there’s such a problem with migrants from said countries.

      “But US”

This argument needs to die already. Someone else being bad is not a counter-argument

The US was actively trying to get whatever talent they could out of the USSR. It’s called brain drain, and it’s an effective way to prevent rival countries from growing.

Why do you think they are arguing? They are comparing.

We all do it every day, it’s unavoidable and will never die until the last human is dust. You need to keep a stiff upper lip and carry on. Be brave! Comparisons can’t hurt you.

It’s relevant since the US is an actual, current threat. Arguements don’t happen in a void, what about the fucking thing happening right now is a valid argument under a lazy irrelevant post like this one

If you look at the same source that you’ve provided, you will also see that using the label “whataboutism” is in itself a fallacy and propaganda strategy.

So… irrelevant… your fallacious propaganda strategy is rejected.

Is has been CLAIMED by people defending their own use of whataboutism, sure, but they’re wrong.

They’re literally claiming that it’s a tu quoque (appeal to hypocrisy) fallacy to point out this particular tu quoque fallacy 🙄

So… irrelevant… your fallacious propaganda strategy is rejected.

            Right back at you.
