Hey guys!
For this weekend’s discussion post, we have an announcement to make. Inspired by the recent post about Elden Ring’s “Seamless Co-op” mod by @sad_detective_man@sopuli.xyz and all the fun and interesting data they have gathered, @Skua@kbin.earth came up with an idea for an official c/Soulslike Seamless Co-op event!
He made a poll to gather some info which can be found here. Here, you can let him know what your preferred co-op experience looks like (PvP, PvE party, PvE gauntlet), what kind of communication you’d prefer (we have a Discord and a Matrix channel!), and what your general availability looks like.
The event will be taking place on 2nd May (time TBD) on PC only (at this time). The specifics of the event will be ironed out until then going off the information gathered in the poll. Another follow-up post to this one to announce the specifics will follow soon.
What you need:
- a copy of Elden Ring (PC)
- Steam
- a knack for Jolly Co-operation™
- a free Saturday
Here are the links to the Matrix channel and the Discord channel if you’d like to swing by and chat a little until then.
Huge thank you to @Skua@kbin.earth and @sad_detective_man@sopuli.xyz for coming up with the idea and organising the event - we hope you come by and have a good time!
If you guys have any questions, do let them know.
Have a great weekend y’all ♥
Aw man, of course I find this comm on the Sunday of the event 😑 Well, I’ll be here for the next one hopefully!
It’s next week, fortunately! This is just the announcement :)
Confirming what v4ld1z said, we just did a bit of testing today so that we can hopefully get it all running smoothly next weekend! I will post later this week with specifics
Good chance I’ll organically invade some folks as long as ya’ll keep invasions on.
I just picked up DS 1 and 2 on steam for half off! Probably gonna be revisiting those this weekend
Awesome, enjoy!
Sadly, I too am only on console:

Still no Soulslike for me this weekend. I’m weighing my options, as to what Soulslike I should play next. Should I play DS2 or Elden Ring again, or should I finally play Hollow Knight?
In the meantime, I’ve made the same mistake as @v4ld1z@lemmy.zip and started playing Slay the Spire 2. Very addicting game.
I’m sorry - we’ll work something out for console for sure o7
If you’re in the mood for something really different, definitely try Hollow Knight. Especially if you’ve not seen too much of the game, it’s such a cool experience. Finding your way around the vastness and interconnectedness of the world should have you feel right at home if you treasure that.
Awesome! Did you hop in on this having played StS1 or are you new to the series? Enjoy your time!
I’ve only seen clips and screenshots of Hollow Knight. I want to go in semi-blind. When I finally come around and play it, I hope I’m not setting my expectations to high.
I never played the first Slay the Spire. I recently had a lot of fun playing the deckbuilder board game Dominion. So I thought I should try a video game. I know Slay the Spire 2 is in early access, but a lot of people seem to be having a lot of fun with it. So I thought, I might as well go for the sequel. Also, the placeholder art is cute.
That’s perfect. Go in as blond as possible to preserve that sense of wonder :)
Yea there’s not much of a point to play STS1 at this point. STS2 is so well-polished already, you can safely skip it. There’s a couple cards and enemies missing, but the replacements make up for it big time.
Enjoy your time and feel free to ask if you need help!
You know, I didn’t realise you were a deckbuilder enjoyer but now after we’ve talked about Death Howl I should have realised. Have I already tried to sell you on Chrono Ark? It is seriously one of the goats, I played it this year after Christmas and loved every second.
Looks a little too horny for my taste, but I’ll have a look at it :D
What made you think it is a horny game? Just curious because it’s not a horny game like… at all. Seriously. It’s just a phenomenal roguelike deckbuilder with a built in visual novel story that will probably surprise you at times. I ended up really liking it and I don’t even like anime. Good music too.
The screenshots of scantily clad anime girls primarily
Are they that scantily clad or am I just brainbroken by modern standards? They look like typical anime designs to me - which for the record I don’t particularly love either but they don’t stand out as over the top horny?

Anyway the game itself is not horny at all. The main character is a child, there is no sex anywhere, there is no flirting - not even between other characters.
The only suspect part is the anime beach episode DLC but you have to purchase that separately and it’s not part of the game or the main story. And honestly the game would be better without it. At least it adds some fun items and abilities and you don’t have to engage with it beyond that.
I don’t think there’s a right or wrong approach here - I just might be a bit more sceptical or a little more sensitive when it comes to this topic. But if you say it’s fine, I’ll definitely have a look at it and try to go in as unbiased as possible.
Us console folk in shambles right now.

Hello, Tarnished companions-to-be! Feel free to ask here if you’ve got questions or suggestions, or if you need a hand with anything. We don’t know what we’re doing but we successfully got it working with very little effort last weekend and beat up the Dung Eater together. Also both of us are interested in the boss rush mode and I’m definitely not going to be pulling my weight there, so if anyone good at these games wants to come carry me then it’d be appreciated
This sounds fun, going to try to join if my schedule allows
Pragmata is what I always kinda imagined a soulslike with guns should be, after Remnant didn’t really have the kind of methodical combat I really look for in a good souls game. It’s otherwise the same as a normal 3rd person shooter, but you need to also perform a little hacking minigame to do any real kinda damage and the encounters can be really tight to control. It’s more fun than I expected it to be.
Armored Core is pretty great too
Is Pragmata considered a soulslike? I didn’t know
No it’s not; i just find the combat to be pretty souls-adjacent. You move kinda slow, you have a limited dodge, and you’re usually outnumbered in a small space. Add to that the puzzle portion, making it somewhat awkward to balance moving, shooting, dodging, jumping and trying to hack just adds a certain level of difficulty to the action that could fit with a true soulslike game.
My playthroughs got derailed a bit by Football Manager this week, so I’m still not done with Death Howl. Will hopefully be finishing it up over this weekend, depending on how much more content there is. Not any real further notes from last week, and I’m still overall enjoying the game. The battles that are at the core of it are fun, and I am enjoying the deckbuilding even though it’s more puzzle-like than open ended. Each region has two play style archetypes and a certain set of enemies and encounters, and for each fight/zone it’s more a case of “what does the game want me to do here” rather than “what can I do with the cards I have”.
As for Elden Ring co-op, I’ll leave that to those who are more enthusiastic about the game than I am I think. I had my fun with it and got my money’s worth but I am not that interested in going back for seconds. Also social anxiety and all that, I’m not sure I’d be that comfortable anyway, or that good company for that matter.
Glad you’re having a good time with Death Howl overall, despite your early scepticism. I gotta hop back on that sometime in the future.
Thats unfortunate but understandable. I’m kinda in the same boat as you, but it’s cool to have people enjoy themselves in these co-op sessions and get together
Death Howl is still a good game. I think for me at first glance it looked so amazing that I was half expecting a 9-10/10 and it’s more like a 7.5-8/10. The art is beautiful and never stops being fantastic and the gameplay is very solid. Once you accept that the emphasis is on the grid-based strategy part and solving encounters like puzzles instead of cooking up crazy creative deck combos the game starts to click much better.
The big let down for me is the story, I don’t hate the main conceit of it even though it’s a little played out, but I think it could have been delivered in a much more subtle way so that you connect the dots much later and get a much more impactful end result that way.
Yea it’s more so Into the Breach + Inscryption than Slay the Spire.
Maybe they could have been inspired a little more by Dark Souls in that department :D
Finished it. Man that final stretch was brutal. You do get full unlimited deckbuilding in the final area, that’s where you can use all the cards from all the zones without any extra mana costs. But fuck me, do you need it. The last stretch of 5 elite fights in a row without healing before the last boss was something.
That’s cool! I’ll have to push through and play it again some time
Hey I’m just here to report that I’m playing around with the Farron Greatsword and the thing is absolutely NASTY, I cannot believe the L1 is free, ( should cost FP imo) and it parries and hits like a truck?!?! Seriously OP. These skeletons can’t touch me. I’m god.
And the combos, ԅ (♡﹃♡ԅ).
It’s amazing isn’t it? Nothing more satisfying than using the first L1 attack to launch around an incoming attack and still get a hit in with the tip of the sword on the swing. And yeah being able to mix and match between L1 and R1 is also so great. So you can do L1-L1-R1 for example to skip the jumping attack. Easily the most fun weapon in the game to use for me.
Incredible boss weapon. I’m thinking fighting Oceiros is going to be a little funky with it, but we’ll see how that goes.
