Anderson Aldrich plans to plead guilty to federal charges with an agreement that would allow him to avoid the death penalty

The shooter, who killed five people and endangered the lives of over 40 others at an LGBTQ+ nightclub in Colorado Springs, plans to plead guilty to new federal charges for hate crimes and firearm violations under an agreement that would allow the defendant to avoid the death penalty, according to court documents made public Tuesday.

Anderson Aldrich, 23, made a deal with prosecutors to plead guilty to 50 hate crime charges and 24 firearm violations, the documents show. Aldrich would get multiple life sentences in addition to a 190-year sentence under the plea agreement, which needs a judge’s approval.

The plea agreement was unsealed after Aldrich had pleaded not guilty in court during an initial appearance on Tuesday afternoon. The gun charges can carry a maximum penalty of death.

Haven’t we learned to not mention the shooter’s name in media? Don’t give them any fame or infamy for anyone to aspire to.

That is a rational analysis of irrational behavior. Which is to say incorrect. None of them did what they did for fame or infamy. Nor would any of them really be able to achieve it because they are a dime a dozen in our violent ignorant culture. Go ask anyone on the street about this. And ask them to tell you when this shooting occurred. Without letting them look it up through Google etc. They won’t be able to tell you whether it was the shooting last week, the week before the week before that the week before that the week before that the week before that the week before that the week before that the week before that the week before that the week before that, or perhaps the week before that.

There’s plenty of out things to criticize the media for. Factual information really isn’t one of them. Criticize them for a fact that they turn everything into a close horse race for ratings. Or that they give fascist unlimited free airtime.

There are many cases of people who have done it specifically because they thought that their act would incite a race war. You can’t do that if you’re anonymous. These people did it for the attention, for the fame, for the honor.

Have you taken leave of your senses!? Affecting widespread cultural and systemic change by leveraging violence under the veil of anonymity is not only possible, but it is the entire premise to Batman. And Batman is smart. Like super smart. So if he says it can be done, it can be done. And that’s all there is to say about that.
