How is this cut better than the others? Wikipedia mentions this version but does not explain the differences.

Never read the book(s?), tried watching this a couple times in the past & just didn’t get it. I enjoy sci-fi as long as it doesn’t get too political or gangstery (Babylon 5 really walks my personal line, for example - sometimes it’s too much, but most other times not). I never cared for The Godfather type of movies for similar reasons (I’m not a plotter/schemer kind of person, so stories involving too much of such turn me straight off).

Is it worth me trying again with this version? I really want to understand what all the fuss is about, and I was probably too clueless to get what was going on way back when it came out so I’m wondering if I’d get it now. However I’m still not into stories about people competing to outdo one another in sneaky, manipulative crap & games. Just not my thing.

I’d say all Dune books can be summarized like this, so maybe it’s just not your kind of story

When I think of Dune, the very first thing I think of is politics. If you’re not interested in a bunch of great houses in space trying to one-up and backstab each other, the series probably isn’t for you.
