Conservatives view this as strengthening the military, not weakening it.
The actual strength of America’s Military doesn’t matter because they don’t have hostile nations on their borders. So when America’s Military loses some of their force projection ability it can be used to say we’re turning towards isolationist policy, which is also a win for him. And, again, if you point out that this move will weaken the American Military, well what are you? A terrorist who doesn’t believe they have the greatest, manliest fighting force ever seen?
