I’m a white CIS guy as well, and I’m worried to the point I can barely function this morning.

I work at a not for profit hospital that’s already on a shoestring budget. Any cuts to government healthcare coverage and my department may as well get slashed in half

I’m concerned about your futures too. My daughter is queer and as of 2 am this morning, we’ve been working on plans to get to the UK, where I have dual citizenship.

Move to Alaska. We need more left-leaning people. We’re already starting to go purple and our population is so low that it probably won’t take much to get us to go solidly blue.

Plus, you won’t have to wait for a massive earthquake to separate you from the rest of the country. Canada will do that.

What do you actually believe is going to happen to you? Why didn’t it happen during his first presidency? Unless you were killed and are talking from beyond the grave? In which case I’m sorry you’re dead.

Don’t look up the statistics for LGBTQ hate crimes under the Trump presidency then.

The ones who survived last time are not fancying their chances, especially when their friend’s corpses are staring back at them.

They came in as bumbling idiots and still managed to wreck a few things, thankfully we still had some institutions left to push back on him the first time.

They have a detailed takeover plan and a sympathetic supreme court now. Things are a little bit different.

Some of it did happen, including a million unnecessary COVID deaths. The rest didn’t because Republicans didn’t control all three branches of government. They will in January.

People are really showing America’s ignorance on basic civics. It’s so depressing.

The last time was truly different. JEB was supposed to win the Republican nomination, leading to a dynasty clash-off between the Bushes and the Clintons… except it didn’t happen, when Trump called him a big meanie poopy-pants or whatever, and he cried, looked weak, and basically went limp (tbf, his father was very ill or sth).

So then it was a toss-up between Ted Cruz and Trump, or as the Republican leaders at the time said, a choice between being poisoned vs. shot in the head. They chose the poison.

After that it came down to Hillary vs. Trump in the general election, and due to some helpful little Russian interference, people voted against her. Not for him, mind you, but against her. It was a one-time thing that would never, Ever, EVER happen aga-…

        Well shit.

Edit: Tbf, after he won even Trump didn’t know what Trump was doing the whole time, besides wandering around eating McDonald’s hamburgers. Though now people are READY to make use of him - they know how, and what they want done. THIS IS VERY DIFFERENT.

I understand, but also, please don’t. As bad as it is right now, the world is still a better place with you in it. Call or text 988 if you’re feeling suicidal, there are people there ready to listen and help.

As I said to someone else- you need to remember what happened after that moment in the show. But thank you for the info.

Well to be fair, the bell riots happened on the way to Cochrane’s big test. Mind you, we now have WW3 to look forward to…

And at least no civil war will break out!

Instead, democracy dies not with a bang, but with a whimper.

        Don’t confuse optimism for desperation:-)

But Star Trek is a great example of what can come after e.g. Bell Riots.

We learn and grow through pain.

You seem to have missed the global nuclear war that happened between the bell riots and shiny space communism.

Wouldn’t mind avoiding that, though it seems like thats getting more and more probable.

Things might get better, after everyone dies for stupid bullshit, but that’s hardly a comfort.

I know it’s nothing useful for concrete or really all that helpful, but I support you and you’re in my thoughts. I hope things get better for you and all the people who have a tough time ahead.
