  • I’ve put that ‘oh fuack’ line as a little joke, followed by next sentence.

Yes, but this is good thing to care in general, so fuck yeah!

I believe exposing that much won’t put me into jail nor hospital/grave

Well, it is not always about dying, but it is interesting that you mentioned Jail as first thing - could you share with us more? :)

One day may even post my photos here, like many others (ngl, that’s my dream to get so good hrt effects as many here, just not today yet).

Hopefuly we will be around to see that!

ranslater, like Trans Later, for oldies, boomers and dinos…

Dinosauras? Yeah, I remember those times - 10 years ago.

Hope not many will find that detail of me weird or unpleasant, even if age gap is a think, happens.

Hopefuly they are not. Although I can not say for sure. Sometimes even parents are not to be trusted.

Yes, I like to keep most of my forks at kitchen spot, how did You know?!?!?!?!?!?!?

I am in your walls, by the way.

  • Oh fuack, m I exposing online myself much now?..

Technically speaking — anything that you share (online or not) can be used against you. It is just a matter of knowing how, why and for what purpose. So, in that sense — yeah, oversharing.

Practically speaking — not really? Unless you think you might be getting targeted for something by someone, then anything that you going to post here will end up here and rot away in an endless Void that Internet is, and people who will read this post most likely forget about it on the next morning ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

That is assuming that anything that you wrote here is even remotely true and you are not sitting behind 7 proxys.

But this a good thing to care about privacy and stuff, so hurray!

    translater

Translater as in “I translate words from one language to another”? That is actually pretty cool. I was in past really small translator.

    a little of a nerd

Fork has been found in the kitchen 😎

  • It still going to be small, again, it is just a text reviews, no pictures or anything (no comments even) with max of 1000 symbols per review.

Assuming they use utf8 for strings, so the biggest review will take 1 kilobyte at most. Considering most reviews are even less then 2 whole sentences, I doubt it will take much in near… Decade if not more (at which time we would most likely die in world war or something).

If we take around ~6.5k reviews (based on number in an article), it would mean we would have ~6.5 megabytes for entire world at most + some metadata (but we would not, considering most of reviews are really brief, so I would say we would sit around half of that size) + compressed + divided for entire world, so at most we would have shaved maybe up to hundred of kilobytes (in maybe several years if we would even have enough of reviews) per country/region/state, which does not sound a lot, considering it would require quite a lot of effort to reorganise stuff. So eh, I do not know.

  • Eh, even in context of tech-savvy users it is still questionable. It is not like tech-savvy users do not need to get from place to place in time with public transport or an car, they are just a regular people, just like non savvy folks.

I, for example, could consider myself one (tech savvy), but even I can not deny that this projects and services kind of… stink, and not usable as big corpo solutions.

Do not get me wrong, I am in love with OpenStreetMaps, with Open Food Facts (and related projects like open prices facts), with Mangrove Reviews, and so on, and I contribute when I feel like it, but damn me if there would had been usable programs and UIs for using Transitious service (and especially with fully offline functionality), or program that use Open Food Facts data for anything even remotely useful (I once made feature request to CoMaps about adding open food facts data, so it can be used for searching food and non-food items on map or opening place and scrolling through list of items it has with prices, but this PR was quickly closed as too niche ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ , and then couple months later we have mangrove reviews, which is even more niche and has even less data but hey, what do I know), and for other related projects.

  • A new project, called “Mangrove Reviews”, has been quietly

Calling it a new project is a bit of an stretch, I would say, considering this project was around for maybe 6 or so years.

Also, for anyone unaware, mangrove is not only for reviews of places, but also websites, books, companies. Found a bad site which scams people? Write an review. Found bad company? Review it.

I wish there were more options, such as videogames, software, food and non food (Open Food Facts can be used for identification, in similar vein that OpenStreetMaps is used for places), and more (and more then 1000 symbols per review in general), but currently we have only that.

Why people don’t wanna switch from Gmaps

I do not want to be that person but I think the main reason is people do not give a fuck about any of that. Or just in general not giving enough fucks for anything.

They have working shit on their devices (in this case — Google Maps), which do what they want and have many features, which varies from “nice to have” to “this is very important to me to the point of not being able to live without this feature”. Traffic data, reviews, and so on.

And when you try to introduce something else to them (especially something as fragmented as open source real life data “stack”, OpenStreetMaps + mangrove reviews + transitious + more) — you would not be meet with enthusiasm, especially if this other service is just worse for one or other reason.

What is the point if they want to input some address in, for example, CoMaps, and they get nothing in return because nobody had added that place and address for 10 years and doing address search is hard? (Both of which Google happened to master to a much higher degree then OpenStreetMaps).

However, navigation services like MapComplete and CoMaps

Calling MapComplete an navigation service is definitely a choice. Or CoMaps for that matter, conspidering that they currently are not providing much of an navigational services for public transport, and that their routing engine sometimes can lead with the most weird paths (but this one is more of an issue with OpenStreetMaps data, which only highlights my previous point).

    is this real competition yet?

Right now it is definitely not. Many-many-many places lack even single review which says “good place”, so for the most of time you do not even notice that service.

Godot has succeeded on rivaling other game engines like Unreal or Unity

Eh… Maybe in indie, sure, it might shaked Unity somewhat, but many games still made with Unity and other proprietary engines. Big studios still on Unreal and some even switching from their in-house engines to Unreal, so eh.

  • I’m not sure why, but I prefer doing that, too.

Maybe it has something to do with the fact, that you are less limited to physical world perhaps?

With pencil, paper and rubber you are limited to always sharpening pencil, with rubber you left small bits behind that you need to clean, it does not even fully erases markings, and if you apply too much of a force — you can even tear up paper. And so on.

While with tablet you have the comfort of using pen-like object, but with less limitation of our whimsy physical word. You can even configure pressure and stuff.

  • The actual webview that is dead https://github.com/Divested-Mobile/maps

This fork is active and fixes stuff if something is broken, so at the very least it will be alive a little longer. Last release was 5.0, 2 months ago, with fixes for street view.

Gmaps wv is a dead project

Meh, not really. It is absolutely not dead for my usecase, for example. You still have streetview to some extend, still more full information about some places compared to OpenStreetMaps, photos, reviews of places, sometimes more correct pathways. So not exactly dead project.

It will become dead once google will entirely block anonymous access ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Google is actively breaking anonymous access to gmaps, so those things are also breaking

Yes, I am aware of that, but until google completely make not possible to use their maps anonymously — something akin to gmaps webview will have its use.

  • Contirbuting to open-source, open data and so on!

For example, why not contribute to OpenStreetMaps? You will help others and also will be going around your city more, possible discovering more interesting stuff :)

Or why not contribute to OpenFoodFacts? Adding prices, updating data, fixing wrong data - so much fun! And useful.

Or did you know that there is open review system, including places on openstreetmaps, companies, books? https://mangrove.reviews/ It is notably used in CoMaps. You can check plaes that you had been in and inform people about good/bad aspects of said place!

And more! Making world a slightly better place together.
