  • I think people who suggest shit like this mistake what Israel’s purpose is.

Of course, but getting people to that point is basically left-pilling them which is challenging, understatement. There’s a huge chasm between whatever, say, John Oliver is and hexbearist thought. In my experience, non-libs (chuds, conspiracy theorists with strange politics, “regular, apolitical” Americans, etc) are more open to learning than libs, but they come with their own reactionary biases.

In other words, I can see libs tepidly exploring Why didn’t Germany give up land to create Israel as reparations, but they’re not ready for even a theoretical understanding of Death to America.

I think sometimes when leftists say Why wasn’t Israel in Germany they are trying to do a logic-appeal to progressives and left-libs who would need hours of education that they are willfully closed off to to understand that Israel is America’s largest unsinkable aircraft carrier.

    Your first point stands!

  • Not the OP but several of my acquaintances/colleagues (in the US) have a pretty good understanding and support US/Western hegemony. One is (was) a Warren lib (now Kamala). Another is wealthy (“upper-middle”). Another is a 2nd gen immigrant professional (conservative liberal). And another is a Reagan Republican fond of the line, “Capitalism is the worst economic system except for all the others.” They are very bright, well-read, plugged-in people with horrible politics. These are people who think that really horrible things are a sad necessity. (A genocide to prevent a genocide type stuff.)

These people are the exceptions in terms of knowing about the world and history. Most people I know have no clue how the world works and don’t want to hear it because it’s a bummer. They’ve chosen a team: lib v anti-lib. The libs might be sad about the “complicated Palestine situation” as they pull they lever for Kamala.

  • Thoughts. The mega-war comments were kinda cringe (esp vis a vis trans mega although I don’t think there was bad intent, hope not) and I wished people self policed more. (Not shaming anyone, bandwagons happen and now it’s corrected.) It seems these comments have been minimized and I appreciate the mod work on this. I don’t think it’s an issue anymore.

The “innocent” OT (and “oops wrong mega”) I appreciate as long as there are not too many.

The news mega is a community and sometimes I have an issue or topic that I’d like feedback and engagement on from my news comrades here. This is a common phenomenon across special interest groups, you become friendly and wish to expand the range of conversation or you wish to tap the knowledge base. (I suppose my saying this could be interpreted as a reason for More Moderation in news mega to ensure that other comms get love. It’s not my call.) Maybe a pinned comment to contain OT? Did someone else suggest that? Or what if we make a post in another targeted comm and leave a pointer here in the news mega. I’ve pointed to a news comm story in the news mega - and got positive feedback from a couple who had missed it.

Re doomer stuff. Let people vent, and use the reply. We all learn and so will the libs who wander in.
