1. If your transaction numbers are low they charge a flat + percentage So like 0.55 EUR + 1.2%. Stores in this tier generally try and keep a minimum spend, because you buy 1 EUR and mastercard charges 56c. From 44c you have to pay for product and make a profit. It’s stupid.

2. You can opt for plans that don’t have flat fee, so it’s like 2.25% percentage only. Useful if you move a lot of small value items like a small convinience store.

3. But if you’re a chain of convinience like SPAR, they can get custom deals. SPAR had a tiered deal, transactions below 1 EUR, they charge 0.4%, below 4 EUR it was 0.9%, below 10 EUR 1.5% and, above 1.9% This would never be possible for smaller shops.

4. Every transaction enriches some foreign country as they take the cut. Homegrown system like wero should be dominant, cheap and stays in local economy.

Also I’d like to note, I’ve been out of touch of Europe for a while so my opinions and knowledge might be dated, but this is solved problem in ASIA, PayNow, Prompt Pay, UPI etc exist and are fantastic solutions for small businesses.

Edit: He replied right away, his kind neighbor has been doing his laundry last six years. He doesn’t even own a washing machine. It makes sense, his neighbors both work outside the reserve, they do laundry every 2-3 days, they don’t mind taking on two additional clothes every month.

Yup, can confirm firsthand, having lookied at mines in Zambia in 2022, 17 year olds were still using pickaxes. While a lot of modern world is doing machine assisted mining. Pickaxes aren’t gone gone.

That’s the point, want a better house work for it, want tasty food, work for it. But there this itch about wanting to paint for 3 months, you can do it, because your worst case scenario is having tasteless food and kind of cramped living space. You won’t have to worry about finding shelter or going hungry.

I think problem is with how basic is demand. Basic is food and nutrition? Fine, mushy food, tasteless but has all the proteins and carbs and vitamins should be available for free to everyone, but they must be Tasteless, textureless. No one should get tatsy FOOD.

Shelter? Everyone must have comfy temperature place to sleep, but place to sleep, 2m x 0.5m x 0.5m should be made free for everyone. Maybe a 0.5m x 0.5m x 0.5m storage space for personal things.

Healthcare should be available for everyone at all times. And it should be top tier and vast.

Education should be available to everyone at all times.

Prisons awaiting trials should be comfortable, but people condemned from the trial should be put to Labour.

I think nothing else classifies as BASIC need. Taste is not a basic need. Entire house is not a BASIC need. Never give out cash to people in need.

That’s my theory on finding balance between people unwilling to contribute to society because of benefits. And people doing terrible jobs because they don’t want to go hungry or need shelter or medical care. This way people are free to pursue ventures without the worry for BASIC needs.

I know man, fortunately I’ve never been there, but I’ve worked closely for years with people who do. Man it’s heart-breaking. It’s so easy for middle class and above to pretend like poor people don’t exist.

I swear so many people if they spend one month like poor, they’d not survive And then my own mom, thinks people are poor because they don’t work hard enough, and I’m like wtf… Her own sister was on the verge of becoming homeless despite both my aunt and uncle full time working and only avoided it because of interest free loans from family. She still thinks my aunt must have done something wrong. She bailed her out, and she paid my mom the money. But my mom still thinks it’s her fault. That was during 2008 FYR.

I’ve been asking her to come with me to soup kitchen like once, and talk to people. She has come but only behind the pot for serving and has refused to talk to people.

Exactly, so I’m not saying AI will not be useful, AI will be useful in reducing cancer related deaths, early detection and management, but for a true “cure” it would have to be some other technology.

It’s going to come from scientists who know how to use ML to supplement their work. Also I don’t think we are finding cure for cancer as a drug. Only cure I think may work 100% we master fully controllable nanotech that can also read DNA non invasively.
