  • Never believe that anti-Semites are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. The anti-Semites have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past.

  • I do not. This is like the core of ADHD executive dysfunction. Stuff only happens in last minute panic mode. Meds help some. Anti-anxiety meds help some too. But I got through college by, frankly, just getting better at doing stuff at the last minute. Same thing that keeps me going in the corporate world.

(The pomodoro technique mentioned by another poster is also good though. It’s not a perfect solution, but in some situations it has helped me get started on something to know “I’m not committing to finishing this, I’m committing to working on it for 25 minutes. Surely I can handle suffering for 25 minutes”)

  • I honestly think that their cover of The Postal Service’s “Such Great Heights” is just a ridiculously good piece of music. Like, the original is a great song, very sparse and bare and emotional and Streetlight flips that by starting out with a real wall of horns that’s still minimalistic in the Philip Glass-sense but is an absolute wall of sounds and then drops into an extremely upbeat ska rendition with layers upon layers upon layers of instrumentation.

“Would You Be Impressed” resonates pretty hard.

    “Point/counterpoint” is great too.

I also am a huge Catch-22 fan so the whole keasbey nights album is just great.
