  • You misunderstand: its current form is a garbage, half right at best, cheating, autocomplete algorithm. There is no logic except how the petabytes of stolen intellectual property weigh responses. It is esswntially the sum total of quora, reddit, and quizlet after reading 20% of the actual material; most of those sources being flawed, and hardly bothering to pick the good parts instead of the garbage.

That is not a tool, nor is it useful. Useful implies it benefits you, when on the whole it physically hurts the planet (thus you), obliterates critical thinking, and gets you addicted before stealing all of your money – all while increasing human distrust in legitimate work, destroying professional skillsets for no benefit, and in about max 2 years or so will be too expensive to continue running (6ou cant bleed 80 billion every year, unfortunately)

  • I disagree. I think the technology is halfbaked at best, and deeply damaging to all aspects of society in its current form/implementation regardless of political atmosphere (although, it certainly does not help)

For those who disagree, please note that i agree there are a select very few fields that require a specialized industry standard LLM for processing data in a tedious way. These are obviously not included, but the amount of users actually doing that is surely less than 50,000 highly academic individuals in the world. The entire rest of the usage is “destroying my codebase”, “eroding my technical skills (that ive built over decades) in 2 weeks”, “im too lazy to update my calendar i dont read anyways” and “bird-box bad guy-esque ‘look at this uncreative garbage that no one wants to look at’ posting”

Given to the public at any point in history in its current state would be overwhelmingly negative. The general public should not have access to this, and those that do should be highly regulated. Ideally it would have about 5 years or so longer to increse efficiency before deploying hundreds of databases everywhere all the time.

  • am I the old man yells at clouds now?

    Well, lets see!

    1. The “AI” (read; LLM. AIs do not exist, but lets ignore that and keep calling it the marketing term) isnt learning anything in the traditional sense, and in fact forgets things after about 100k tokens. Humans can remember much more of their own work, or at least have their memory jogged. Point 1 for the old ways.
    2. AI is incredibly expensive and so are the people using it. If the expensive people are using expensive AI, and the doubly expensive code isnt doubling profits, but instead introducing obscene amounts of bugs, then the whole point of the AI is now null and void. Point 2 for the old ways.
    3. If my very expensive people dont get what they need from the slot machine immediately, they need to pay the very expensive AI slot machine again. The AI company has every incentive to make code that works about 90% of the time, so its good enough to keep using but you eventually have to reprompt. This is a conspiracy of mine, but ive yet to hear any good arguments against it. Point 3 old ways.
    4. Subjectively, the fun part about coding is the part where you problem solve and invent out-of-the-box ways to solve problems. AI has extremely limited capacity for this, regardless of what their marketing team says. The extremely lame part of coding is where you read it and make sure it works before pushing to prod. AI removes the fun part, so now your job is copy/pasting/deleting/asking a tempermental sycophant to try again all day. Point 4 old ways.
    5. AI is quite literally burning our crops, poisoning our water supply, and delivering a plague unto our houses. While this is a funny allusion to a biblical disaster, it is also reality. Most humans on an individual level don’t destroy entire municipalities’ way of life or clearcut massive swaths of norse forests, especially not software engineers (usually?) But AI almost always does. Point 5 to the old ways.

…and those are all of the reasons i care to come up with. It definitely makes you feel more productive, while not actually being productive. Sure, you prompted the cuckbot and it farted out an answer in 3 minutes, but now youre spending 2 hours fixing it when it could have taken you 1 hour to just write the damn thing correctly the first time. Or you can roll the dice, push to prod, clock out early, and hope no one traces that issue back to you while you collect a check and drink margaritas with mamacitas in style (as our world and your company burn down together)

amanita muscaria is extremely poisonious but also possible to somewhat safely get high off of if you dose correctly. Its just an extremely terrible high that is not at all fun or enjoyable and youd be better off just doing legal drugs like alcohol or weed if your state doesnt suck.

This isnt like a wink wink nudge nudge thing, legit do not do them. Its just being drunk with more brain damage.
