I’m sure it wasn’t fun. If I was arrested in Lebanon, I’d spend the whole damn time apologising for the shit my country does. Also fuck you your dad was in the air force.

You’re right. But I’d rather that than be under suspicion of being a Palestinian anything in Israel. You’d be detained without trial for a decade.

Wasn’t his dad that famous astronaut? What’s-his-face.

    [looks it up]

Yeah, Chris Hadfield was in the Royal Canadian Air Force apparently. Which I suppose gives meaning, in fact probably most famous astronauts, at least in Can-Merica, had military careers before they went to space… And I dunno, I guess this is just a fact that I haven’t consciously reflected much on, that a huge number of the people in this profession that I’ve always respected and even romanticized, would have a background in a profession that I disrespect and would like to see abolished.

But I guess it’s my problem for acting like “real” astronauts necessarily must be more clever, wise, and pure-hearted than average people. For CSA and NASA among others, the launch pads would after all be built on stolen land with wealth that came from imperial plundering, and I think that kinda puts an upper limit to how clever, wise, and pure-hearted their astronauts could be.

But anyways yeah, Rare Earth can sometimes be a little interesting or entertaining, but there’s just something about the way he talks that bothers me, that feels kind of self-important for lack of a better word. I haven’t followed him for years, anyways, though. Sucks to get detained, but that’s just how it goes, right?

Someone brought it up to me last time he was brought up, but he had some really terrible “China bad” videos. I guess Canadians are better than Amerikans to a degree. Though in my experience, the air force has the worst attitudes of all the armed services.

I’m not a Canadian, btw. I guess less slavery and modern wars. Not saying that Canada is good though.

Usually if a meet a stranger, I’m much less annoyed by Canadians, although they’re still likely to be libs.

I volunteered on a project that initially was going to have Israeli and Lebanese people volunteering alongside me, until the Lebanese government arrested the Lebanese chapter’s chairman and made it clear to him that the organisation would absolutely not be promoting peace between Israeli and Lebanese individuals. The Israeli decided he wouldn’t come so that the Lebanese delegation could, but it turned out the whole situation was lose-lose because all but one of the Lebanese were dickheads and the Israeli guy had IDF brainworms.

This isn’t actually part of my job, this is my “free time” volunteering. It’s an international peace education organisation that works to promote intercultural cooperation and understanding through experiential learning - basically we play games with 11-18 years olds that have messages like “war bad” and “wealth inequality bad”. The organisation attracts a lot of libs but so much of the message of the projects is straight up socialist that it’s easy to give people that little push they need to realise capitalism is the source of the problems we raise.
