A quick announcement of Daybreak 2 is a promising sign, but this article only discusses one part of the problem. NISA’s pace with its last four releases in the series makes it clear that they are willing to hold up their end of the rope, but Falcom is notorious for not working with Western localizers before their games release. Hopefully Kondo and co. are making changes to get us somewhere closer to simultaneous releases in the future.

Hope they make their translations actually accurate to the source material instead of changing and inserting unrelated stuff in like most other localizers these days.

They’ve been pretty sloppy. Even having craft/art descriptions be wrong, which affects gameplay. I miss the quality xseed brought but I guess the newer games are too large for them

That’s not what they are talking about, unfortunately.

Fortunately, Daybreak was dramatically better than Reverie on the UI translation. Reverie’s scenario was fine, at least, but even it wasn’t nearly as good as Daybreak’s. Daybreak has one of the best localizations I’ve ever seen; it’s excellent, thorough work. Insane attention to detail for a script that size.

He was talking about the developers making an inaccurate translation which is true.

Which one are you talking about then? The only one I’d heard of so far is the ‘Are you a boy or a girl’ being translated into ‘what are your pronouns’. And in this precise case, it makes perfect sense (the literal translation being super rude and doesn’t make quite as much sense compared to the localized one, especially in this context

            Spoiler

since the person being asked is trans, though he’s hiding it

            ).

Not that it would be the first time a poor translation came out from NISA, but it seems they’ve paying close attention since Ys 8. All the ‘mistranslations’ brought up this far are either virtue signaling, or just the classical differences between translation and localization (the latter of which is part of what made the series famous in the first place).

I’m not saying it’s not true, but everything I’ve seen thus far only made me skeptical of those claims.

I’m doing that, struggeling a lot. Maybe in 10 years i’m good enough to play games in japanese.
