as someone who exited an employer after accumulating nearly a decade of critical, experiential and valued institutional knowledge, the lack of a job ladder was something I should have recognized as a major red flag much earlier.
it absolutely leads to toxicity, bullying, fast-tracking of narcissists, process dysfunction and deep resentment that culminates in major blows to organizational capacity when people finally get fed up and walk.
if management doesn’t take an active and transparent interest in developing their workers with material incentives to reward them for each year of service and skill ups, they are organizationally shitting the bed and rolling around in it.
