No Hexbear isn’t brigading you I’m clicking on the main page of the website and replying to whatever I see. I don’t even know what website I’m on, I have ADHD, I aint got the kind of focus. Anyway I’m going to go brigade a thread about video games with my pro-FFXIV propaganda.
But have you considered that the hexbears are mean to me and don’t respect my liberal politics?
Participating is “brigading” the way defederation is “censorship”, which is to say it’s just not but a lot of people who want to stir up drama and play victim will pretend it is.
brigading is when we comment on things on our front page
A hexbear post on hexbear? Stop brigading hexbear, you hexbear!
Everyone please brigade this post.
Depends if a link is shared
Edit for clarity; by a user to somewhere else
… What else are you doing when you post it? If it’s posted in a non-federated instance, it’s only shared locally, but it’s still shared.
What am I missing?
It’s a brigade if the people LARPing as the Adults In The Room that Make The Hard Decisions and Get Shit Done like in their Prestige TV treats get any actual pushback to their “war crimes and atrocities are good if NATO does them, actually” takes.
brigading is when people i don’t like tell me i’m very stupid, and it should be illegal
Hexbear users remind me of those grey bad guys on the power rangers.

Cops and gangs all run the same game my friend.
yeah, that’s our point too.
I like to think of us as Monarch henchmen, what with the butterfly gettups et al
lightsaber twirl
Brigading absolutely is a thing. And intention isn’t required for it to happen.
Edit itt: people(bots?) missing the point.
SHAPIS IS BRIGADING!
Fuck off is it.
What liberals call “brigading” is just when people share content they dislike and then show up and complain about it.
Liberals have NO PROBLEM with people sharing content that they like, and then showing up and praising it.
The entire function of the word “brigading” is to prevent people from sharing content if they will show up with critical or opposing views to that content. It is literally just “don’t share our content with other people if you disagree with us/it, only share our content with people if you agree with us/it”.
The action is simply sharing the content. You apply a different word to it when it’s in disagreement compared to agreement. The aim of which is to suppress opposition and disagreement.
Democrat liberals use “brigading” the same way republican liberals use “cancel culture”. It is a tool deployed to attack people to your left whenever they disagree with something. Demlibs and Replibs use all the same tools as one another, they just call them different names, like “tankie” deployed by Demlibs against the left has exactly the same function as “woke” deployed by Replibs against their left. You can translate all of these tactics leftwards down the pipeline.
What you are doing right now? Most of your crowd would call it brigading if we showed up in one of your threads and did the exact same thing.
(bots?)
You didn’t get a single response from “bots” either lmao. Why are you all like this? Why do you assume people disagreeing with you must be bots? All of them are longterm well liked users here. Take off your fucking tinfoil hat.
Oh I can actually answer this one. And nah. That’s not why you guys are being told you are brigading.
But think of it this way. Every community on the internet has its own culture. Small ones even more so. And Lemmy is full of small communities which is great.
Suddenly your five person community starts getting bombarded with people from another instance that all seem to have a very different culture and it totally kills the conversation that was happening there before.
That’s the complaint people are having about hexbear. You are entirely entitled to your own little echo chamber on the internet.
But you guys. I’m assuming unintentionally are sprouting those ideas outside of it in much smaller communities. Completely overwhelming the local discourse.
You gotta be more mindful of it if you don’t want to kill smaller communities.
Ps. My bot edit it’s because all replies to my post were account created on a very small window of time. Yours included. There’s a few July 26 2020s there. It raises flags for me at least.
Suddenly your five person community starts getting bombarded with people from another instance that all seem to have a very different culture and it totally kills the conversation that was happening there before.
If that’s a problem why would they federate with instances hundreds of times their size? If you want your tiny community and don’t want other people commenting there, don’t federate!
I think most people want to federate to reach more like minded people. Which is reasonable.
Then operate on an allow list and only federate with people you want to federate with? Why are you acting like anyone has ever suddenly been bombarded by hexbear comments without first deciding to either federate specifically with us or to federate with everyone? You realize you’re literally just making up a lie right?
You most definitely can brigade regardless of federation. Brigading refers to organised mass posting by a group of people.
Now, whether or not what’s happening is brigading is another matter. Just having users post there isn’t brigading, there has to be some organisation of some sort, like a post that effectively (intentionally or not) calls people to arms to another post/comment.
Brigading is an offense made up by the most annoying people on Reddit that everyone has to pretend to take very seriously
I got banned from my local subreddit for brigading a post that was on the front page. Like, I live here fuckface.
By that definition, we brigade all posts on our site and everywhere else, because we have a carefully cultivated culture of organised mass posting everywhere we see. If other Lemmy users aren’t posting with every fibre of their being, that sounds like theeeeir fault.
