This hypocrisy drives me up the wall and the police case is so much worse than what the meme implies, I just did not want to clog it up with all the even more damning details, but the highlights are:

  • The policeman and a gang of other police people attacked a guy and his friends. Held him down and beat him.
  • They were recorded by the victim’s girlfriend, took her phone and then deleted the footage. (The police got fined 1200$ for doing so)
  • The recordings made at the police station were also deleted.
  • Only the guy holding the victim down and hitting him in the head has been charged.
  • The victim has also talked about having memory problems.

The meme has more or less everything about the Zarina case other than that her mom said that they were from Chechnya and while lying about being a refugee is pretty messed up, but holding someone “accountable” for not ratting out their mom when they were a minor or when they had just turned 18 is not it.

Also hot take, if you have managed to illegally live in a country for a long enough time to get a citizenship you should just give them that citizenship.

You can read more about the cases here: Kongsberg Case: https://www.nrk.no/emne/kongsberg-politimann-domt-for-vold-1.16821011 https://www.nrk.no/buskerud/politimann-domt-for-slagene-i-kongsberg-_-anker-til-hoyesterett-1.16844435 You can also write “Kongsberg Politi” (Translation: Kongsberg Police) in the search bar for more articles.

Zarina Case: https://www.nrk.no/nordland/zarina-saidova-kastes-ut-av-norge-etter-avgjorelse-fra-une-1.16853673 You can also write “Zarina” in the search bar for more articles.

All the articles are in norwegian so you will need to use a translator and I have not found any english articles for either case, so you will need a translator if you want to do more reading on other sites.

If anyone talks about how good the norwegian police and justice system is, just send them this image or a link to this post or a link to any of the articles.

Also if anyone else has similar cases or more info one these cases (I have not followed the police case too much since it has taken so much time) just post it in the comments so that non-norwegians can be more informed on our messed up justice system.

Any person with any amount of goodness and justice in their heart could spend a thousand years contemplating each case and any of these sentences would not enter their mind even for a fleeting moment. These sentences are so aggregious that they should be criminal. Even if both of these cases reach an end state where the policeman gets multiple years and Zarina gets to go home (with generous compensation) it would not be a success, because there were judges before them who thought these kinds of awful sentences were not only apporpriate, but good enough to be voiced outside the confines of their minds.
