I thought people might want to know since the public betas got released today. I tried them both on my iPhone and iPad and the scrolling is so janky in both they’re pretty much so unusable. I noticed scrolling problems in other apps too, I’m not trying to place any blame whatsoever on Voyager or its devs, I just wanted everyone here who was thinking about taking the plunge to know that if you do, there’s a pretty good chance you’ll lose access to a functional version of Voyager.
Scrolling has always been an issue since I first started using this app. It locks up constantly for anywhere from a few seconds to 30 or so seconds. It’s the only reason I don’t use it as my main lemmy app.
In my case I stop touching the screen for 1 second, then it becomes responsive again.
A temporary “solution” to fix this is to swipe on any post. This will allow you to scroll again, although you have to do it everytime it locks up…
Yeah, but this ain’t that. It’s way worse.
Installed the beta yesterday but haven’t experienced what you have. Scrolling seemed to be fine.
I have the same issue with iPad OS 16
No issues here.
I’ve had the dev beta and now the public beta on my iPad and had no issues. I think I did have to reinstall it at some point though, have you tried that?
Maybe you are having issues where images are failing to load and it makes the feed glitch, there’s an open issue for that.
Nah, I was having that before I updated to the beta. This is definitely not that. I can load up the All feed and scroll down a page or two and then hit the “bottom” where no more posts load, then I try to scroll back up and it’s stuck on that page of posts. Then sometimes it will scroll without loading anything at all so I’m just scrolling a blank page and it gets stuck again so it’s just a blank page with nothing on it. It’s not mildly annoyingly janky, it’s like, completely unusable janky. But like I said, I am seeing similar behavior in other 1st party apps, so it’s almost certainly nothing that Voyager is doing wrong.
Can you install Firefox on iOS? If so see how it works using that for the PWA back end.
Hmm. That seems to have worked. I wouldn’t have thought so since, as the other person that replied to you said, I thought all the browsers used the same engine on iOS. Maybe they changed some Safari specific things in iOS 17.
Won’t it not be different since all browsers on iOS (chrome, firefox, brave, etc) are forced to use WebKit unlike Android?
I don’t think this is an iOS 17 issue. I’m on iOS 15.0.1 and scrolling in voyager is also wonky
As I’ve said multiple times now, this isn’t the wonkyness that I and almost everyone else has been experiencing since the beginning of the app. This is different. The content isn’t loading at all after scrolling a bit, and after using it for a few minutes it basically reaches a point where nothing will load and the pages are blank and you have to reset the app. This only started on both of my devices once I installed the betas.
