I think it is very common knowledge that the biggest downside of democracy is the general stupidity of most of the voting population.

I guess we should let the smart people choose what’s right for them, and not give them a vote……

The system is described in Plato’s Republic. You can learn more about it on Wikipedia. This idea pre-dates the concept of “left” and “right”.

I made a slight mistake in my previous comment. Plato was the one who came up with it, but his work is in the form of a Socratic dialogue.

Ancient Greek philosophers’ views on slavery are complex and can’t be boiled down to a reply that would retain all the nuance yet would not be annoyingly long to read. Nonetheless, their views on slavery do not invalidate their views on politics.

Not inherently stupid, mind you. Un(der)educated and lied to by those they should be able to trust.

Never got with the political dynasty thing? What is exactly wrong with that? Like people vote for the leader, how does it matter if they are from political dynasty or not?

Because political dynasties are like royalty, where what matters is keeping power within the family, not the skill or qualifications of a person to lead. When there is a dynasty, corruption is not far behind. These people inherit power as if they deserve it, and they are brought up by their politician parents to become politicians, not servants of the people. The goal is to continue holding power, not working for the people.

Well rahul Gandhi is very well campaigning on road, doing yatras, etc. Its a dire time for opposition but still that man is fighting, sure he was awarded the position he is at but still he is fightin, trying to prove himself. One can get a chance by being privilege, to hold on to it you must be qualified enough.

The man just figured this about the castes on the last leg of the campaign after all else failed? Seems he just threw ideas to the wall until one stuck. Not sure it shows lots of commitment to the idea, seems pretty last minute.

He is fighting in name of caste for more than a year now, he lost MP, RJ and CG elections after that but still he is holding on to it, lets see what future holds.
