My husband and I often fill out our ballots together and help each other figure out what each prop means and what each candidate stands for, etc. It takes some time. Hoping to get to it this weekend. I always drop ours in a ballot drop box at the church down the street or the library as opposed to actually mailing them.
That’s nice. I’m always begging my spouse to vote.
I’m going to wake up, drink some water, make my bed, shave, brush my teeth, take a shower, put on my socks, put on my pants, put on an undershirt, put on a shirt, tuck the shirt into my pants, go to the kitchen, put a hot pocket in the microwave, wait for the microwave to sound, remove the hot pocket from the microwave, take a bite of the hot pocket and then open the sandwich a little bit, blow on the inside of the sandwich to cool it and then once the sandwich is cooled down enough, I’ll eat the hot pocket, rinse off my plate, put the plate on the drying rack, go to my front door, open it, walk out and close it, get into my car, and then drive to the polling place and vote.
Ahh… old school still voting at the polling place in person. That is becoming rarer.
More people seem to walk their vote-by-mail ballots to the polling place than actually vote there, at least in my county. I am personally a big advocate of sending the ballot in early so that it’s easier to count the ballots, instead of the county receiving hundreds of thousands of ballots in one week. But voting in person is easier to count than vote-by-mail ballots (at least in my county - I’d dread thinking about how things are done up in Shasta).
Do you plan on doing any reading about the props or candidates prior to arriving? or will you walk in, and then spend time figuring out how you are going to fill out the ballot?
My county gives me a sample ballot in the county voter guide. I love filling that out, and then filling out my official ballot by copying the sample ballot.
Yeah I get a sample ballot for my county that I’ll go over and double check to see if there’s any candidates/amendments/etc I’m unfamiliar with and go ahead and do a deep research, check a candidates finance sources, make sure there isn’t any hidden language and all that and then fill that ballot out for a reference to look over on Election Day. Yeah I still go the old school route, my polling place isn’t too crowded. Truth be told, I’m in Missouri and honestly not even sure about early voting. I’ll check that out now actually cos it has been nice the few times I’ve had the option.
Ooh. not sure if that means you’re a California resident currently in Missouri or if you’re a Missouri voter.
I tell people California is the best state to vote in the nation. We take the right to vote very seriously by offering people many different ways to achieve their right to vote. But I never actually voted in another state, so I guess I’m just talking out of my butt!
Either way, I hope you vote!
This weekend. I try to do a lot of background research from multiple sources, not just on ballot statements or endorsements.
Will be running it all by my savvy teenager, wife, and elderly mother to see what they think.
Edit: 100% dropping it off at a ballot dropbox. The last couple of elections, my mother’s ballots kept getting ‘lost’ in USPS mail. Also, everyone should sign up for ballot tracking notifications at: https://california.ballottrax.net/voter/
I know someone that worked for USPS. They said not all USPS locations are created equally.
I’ve got my mail-in ballot and have been working through it with the voter guide. I usually hand deliver it to my local precinct on election day, but I may hand deliver it to an early drop off if I see one.
I encourage everyone to drop off their ballot early if possible, and bring donuts or pizza to the precinct polling place on election day.
Literally just got my ballot in my mailbox a day ago, so no, not yet. I’ll be dropping it off in person at a collection point. Probably a polling place, but maybe an official ballot drop box.
I believe I got my ballot on Oct 2nd, so it’s been sitting in my place for almost two weeks.
Every county does things their own way.
My vote by mail ballot is in the mail. I love voting super early. It feels great to ignore all the junk mail, propaganda, and news. Sometimes I respond back to the text message volunteers telling them I already voted so you can’t persuade me.
