Mamdani is stone-faced as the protesters call him a traitor and sellout.

some chants

Anti-Mamdani chants at the protest:

“Zohran, what do you say? How many kids did you kill today?”

“700,000 dead. Mamdani, your hands are red!”

“Traitor, traitor, come on out! You sold all your people out!”

“Zohran, you can’t hide. We charge you with genocide!”

From Nerdeen Kiswani, Founder of Within Our Lifetime

“MAYOR MAMDANI, TAKE A STAND! STOP THE SALE OF STOLEN LAND!”

Protesters confront Zohran Mamdani at an Israeli October 7th event, over the sale of Palestinian land through Israeli real estate events held right here in NYC.

Mamdani once introduced the Not On Our Dime Act to stop New York nonprofits from financing illegal Israeli settlements. Yet since becoming mayor, he has not publicly advanced a comparable initiative. When protesters confronted these land sales, he condemned their rhetoric rather than announcing concrete enforcement measures against the sales themselves.

In January, I outlined four existing legal avenues his administration could pursue, from consumer protection enforcement to investigations of potentially unlawful real estate marketing. None requires waiting for the state legislature.

Wow. A student organizer leading protests against Zohran Mamdani tonight reveals that she previously interned for him.

Now she’s leading chants against the very politician she once worked for, accusing him of prioritizing his own political advancement over the people and movements that helped bring him to power.

She delivers an ultimatum: The protests can stop when Mamdani stops the sale of stolen Palestinian land in NYC and abolishes the CUNY Board of Trustees, which advances Israel’s interests within the nation’s largest urban public university system.

But she makes clear that she doesn’t expect him to deliver. In her view, Mamdani has become just another politician who makes promises to movements and then fails to meet their demands once in office.

What makes her testimony particularly significant is that she isn’t someone who opposed Mamdani from the beginning. She worked for him. She believed enough in his political project to participate in it. Now she’s publicly confronting him.

Her speech speaks to a broader frustration among people who placed their hopes in electoral politics as a vehicle for advancing Palestinian liberation. For some, the experience hasn’t strengthened their faith in political institutions. It has deepened their distrust.

Genuinely not as disappointed in Mamdani as I am at all those who refuse to hold elected officials feet to the fire.

He has absolutely no incentive to deliver on the demands of the Palestine movement if we don’t relentlessly make those demands. Meanwhile, Zionist organizations are doing exactly that, applying pressure and getting more and more of what they want, while people who claim to be on the left or support Palestine tell us our strategy should be to shut up.

full text

It’s absurd. You see that political pressure works. You see Zionist organizations using it to advance their interests. Yet somehow when Palestinians do that, in the context of a genocide no less, we’re accused of doing AIPAC’s job for them.

There is nothing Zionist organizations would like more than for the Palestine liberation movement to silence ourselves while politicians endlessly cater to their demands.

But what infuriates me even more is being lectured by Americans whose tax dollars are funding the weapons slaughtering my people. People who not only refuse to hold their own politicians accountable or do more to stop the genocide, but have the audacity to tell Palestinians to shut up about it.

You don’t get to sit comfortably in the country financing the slaughter of our people, refuse to hold your own politicians accountable, and then lecture us about how we’re allowed to resist it.

So many Democrats have terrible positions on Israel. They can be very good overall and I will still vote for them over any Republican. But we need to keep the pressure on.

      No, they can’t.

Democrats embracing neoliberalism and the Clintons’ Third Way politics created the environment where fascism was not only viable but inevitable. Nobody who is ever required to vote according to the dictates of party leadership specifically selected for fealty to Wall St donors will ever be “good overall”, unless you’re part of the Blue MAGA cult and capable of forgetting absolutely anything that ever happened before the most current election cycle.

If only it were that simple.

When you have 2 candidates and one wants to televise firing squad executions and one wants to feed kids and give citizens healthcare, I will vote for the kids and the healthcare.

The best place to vote for the candidate you want is in the primaries. For the general election you pick the candidate that’s overall best.

No they don’t. They say these things and then never deliver. And even then? What is the price? To support genocide?

Are you really this stupid? People like you are why trump is in office. The Democrat candidate wasn’t perfect so you didn’t vote, or voted for trump.

              The Democrat candidate wasn’t perfect

boasting about being harsh on immigration, saying that trans people should “follow the law”, saying that nothing was going to change from Biden’s term, fierce supporter of genocide and saying that “I’M SPEAKING” when pro-palestine asked about, saying that Iran is their “greatest threat/adversary” and that she would focus on building the most lethal army ever.

              yes, not “perfect”.

so you didn’t vote, or voted for trump.

              Not an Amerikan.

I think being legally and humanely harsh on illegal immigration is goodz a country should have control of their borders. But the immigration system and ICE have not been efficient or humane, and got 100x worse under trump.

Not familiar with the trans position but I can say Kamala would have at least been open to new information and arguments. Narcissism and open hostility wouldn’t be such huge factors like they are now.

Biden’s term was overall much better for the entire world. More of the same would be an improvement compared to now.

Way too many Dems support Israel government and that is inexcusable.

I’m in favor of an effective and lethal military. What I’m not in favor of is deploying it against civilians or recklessly. It should be a deterrent, not a tool.

If you aren’t from the USA then you will not fully understand how bad this administration is. They are robbing the US blind while hurting, killing, kidnapping, and raping civilians. The rule of law and the Constitution is being widely ignored and sorely tested. Many courts rule against the administration but the Supreme Court often rules in favor.

If the Democrats, as flawed as they are, regain power and don’t put safeguards in place to prevent this from happening again the authorotarianism will only get worse.

think being legally and humanely harsh on illegal immigration is good

That kind of thinking is exactly why we say “scratch a liberal and and a fascist will bleed”. Your problem with Trump isn’t what he’s doing, it’s how he’s doing it. This is actually true of most Libs, but you don’t usually see them come right out and say the quiet part out loud like this so thanks for your honesty.

Not familiar with the trans position

                  Unsurprising.

but I can say Kamala would have at least been open to new information and arguments.

Only if the new information and arguments were accompanied by bigger donations than the ones that have Dem candidates throwing trans kids under the bus all over the dining country this month bcs their donors think it’ll help them win.

Biden’s term was overall much better for the entire world.

This may shock you, but upper-income White USians aren’t the entire world. If you actually believe what you wrote you need to find some sources of information that aren’t cable news.

Way too many Dems support Israel government and that is inexcusable.

And yet you seem happy to excuse it if it means the bad orange man goes away from the TV and you can go back to ignoring all the drone bombing and imperialist extraction while you have a peaceful brunch, just like you did under Obama and Biden.

If you aren’t from the USA then you will not fully understand how bad this administration is.

If you are illiterate or incurious enough to think that, then you don’t understand how bad every preceding administration, regardless of party, has been for the rest of the world.

If the Democrats, as flawed as they are, regain power and don’t put safeguards in place to prevent this from happening again the authorotarianism will only get worse.

This is like hoping Stone Cold Steve Austin will save you from The Rock. They both serve the same bosses and read the same script. The Democrats are complicit in everything that’s come so far, and will continue to be.

No, people like you are why Trump is in office. You’re clinging to the dead, bloated corpse of a center-right party that will happily feed you to one of their donors with a side of Triscuits. Fascism is capitalism in decay. Anyone protecting capitalism is helping fascism whether they mean to or not.
