    Horse shit.

The American government is and has always been an oligarchy, with brief periods of time in between intensifying authoritarianism where the people managed to catch some extra bread crumbs with enough push back.

This is like condemning the people of other authoritarian countries for the actions of a government that actively enslaves them as well. Fucking moron tankie ass type of take.

That Carlin quote is less relevant now than it was when he made it. The people have never had less of a say in US politics before the Voting Rights Act, which was repealed recently by SCOUTS that is rewriting the constitution as it goes.

      Nader, Sanders, Green party, …

People are instead choosing to vote for evil, rather than the obviously ethical options.

The same billionaires buying establishment Dems and the GOP are the same ones that own all of our media and censor dissent.

How can you possibly put a blanket blame on the American people when criticisms of the establishment that come with any substance is immediately censored out in most mainstream media platforms? When its censored out of public education? When the few who speak the truth have to either be entirely self employed or risk losing their entire livelihood?

That’s not freedom. That’s not democracy. That’s authoritarianism. You can’t blame the proletariat for the crimes of their autocratic rulers.

Yes but you have a democracy and your institutions should have arrested Trump after his failed insurrection. Then you people VOTED AGAIN AND HE GOT MORE VOTES. LOL AMERICANS PICKED HIM.

Keep pretending your country will change, it won’t it because the people are evil.

If that is an honest generalization, that says more about you and the company you keep than it says about US citizens.

Try this one on for size: every American I know is an anti-consumerist, anti-authority, anti-car, pro-bicycle, pro-transit, Socialist hippie organic gardener and/or dirtbag hippie sailor. Both of our statements can be true, and are reflections of how we choose to operate in the world.

I noticed your edited your comment to which I replied. You now say “On a whole” whereas the original comment I replied to said “every American is a consumerist piece of shit.” Moreover you failed to call out that the edit you made.

So, you are either intentionally or unintentionally moving the goalposts.

Saint Carlin is almost always on, definitely always insightful. Where I diverge from the post title is the complete lack of nuance. Pretty much everything fucked in the United States is by explicit design.

Humanity has a few thousand years to perfect formulae for manipulating and subjugating the populace. The US embodies that refinement writ large. This miserable country never banned slavery; we just managed to shift the cost of ownership to the slaves. We successfully propagandized the populace, suppressed education and made it into a punchline (nerds vs jocks), and then convinced all the temporarily embarrassed billionaires that this is what freedom looks like.

So yeah … what you’re seeing in the US is the endgame of millennia of oligarchical refinement. This pattern repeats all throughout history. Given the title of this community, I suppose you can take some comfort that, from a historical perspective, the bill is going to come due for the US. I just hope that, given the extent of globalization, we don’t take everyone else down with us.

The government of the people by the people. Stop pointing the finger at some entity. Your government is MADE OUT OF YOU PEOPLE! IT’S YOU AND EVERYONE AROUND YOU THAT IS THE PROBLEM

That’s like saying the ruling class is a reflection of the working class. That has only approached being true in the Eastern bloc socialist experiments.

How is the ruling class not a reflection of the working class? You think working class Americans are something special? You think they are more moral and hardworking? Ok buddy they are just as big of pieces of shit as the rest

No, I think the massive differences in wealth and material incentives people from the ruling class face compared to those who work for a wage/salary create vastly different behaviours and morals in each class. I believe people are much more a reflection of their class and much less so of a specific culture. In that I don’t believe Americans are special compared to Canadians, Germans, etc. I think there’s a lot more in common between a Canadian and an American worker than an american worker and Jeff Bezos.

“No good reason” is the problem, and is the root cause of US people being problematic.

Im not from the country descending into fascism. Its not perfect here, but its not as bad as the US, though I do what I can for issues I have a say in.

Stop trying to excuse yourself or “well what have you done” yourself out of responsibility.
