There’s a great SciFi book, called Blindsight, which explores the idea of communication as a weapon. Speaking to someone is only ever used as a form of distraction, a delaying tactic to let you do what you want while your victim is stuck rationalizing what you’ve said.
Whether it is bluffs or misinformation or white noise to hide what you’re doing, the predator communicates as a means of attack. The only winning move is to blot it out. If you’re listening, you’re losing.

On a different note, have u read Embassytown_ where communication/words are drugs? Great book that blew my mind, still haunts me.
I have not. But it’s China Miéville, so easy to see how it’s a good one.

Mieville became one of my favorite contemporary authors after reading Embassytown, I’ve been really impressed with his books, highly recommend. I read almost 60 books in 2025 (Blindsight was one) and Embassytown is my favorite of the year. I started using the library system instead of buying books and of the 60 books I bought two knowing I must reread in the near future; Embassytown and Lord of Light (also blew my mind especially being almost 60 years old).

If you’re a big reader, it’s genuinely crazy to do anything else shy of piracy.
I mostly stick to audiobooks, because driving with a book out is suicidal. But I cannot image buying the 2-3 books I go through every month. Would cost a fortune. And then where would I even put them all when I was done with them?

I’d like to think that this whole experience would prove to everyone for all time that if you allow conservatives to have power, they will absolutely abuse it, to the point of repeatedly and aggressively violating our Constitutional rights (among other things), and that knowledge would prevent Americans from ever allowing them to have power again.
But we’re talking about a profoundly stupid nation with a profoundly stupid populace. So I’m not holding out any hope.
Were they conservatives, they’d prefer a status quo and be more akin to christian democrats.
